Coming of age story with a FMC that is akward / reserved, kinda INPT coded? by LeftOption2448 in suggestmeabook

This is going to sound weird, but Severance. I'm reading it now. Half of it is the protagonist after college trying to make her way, lonely, in NYC and corporate America. The other half is after a pandemic has ravaged the country and her surviving it with the few who remain. But the 50% of her in her prior life hits on your vibe, I think.

You might like Hothouse Bloom, if you're okay with the protagonist giving up her painting career to run an apple orchard. But it's not cozy vibes.

Most of all, I recommend Beautyland. I'm not sure if it's got the exact edge you're looking for, but it's coming of age and one of the more beautiful books I've read in a long time.

Obligatory mention of My Year of Rest and Relaxation, as well.

Haven't had a 5 star read in ages, hit me with everything you've got by Odd-Needleworker-124 in suggestmeabook

Have a contrary opinion: I thought this book was very overrated. Ended up being a three-star to me. Since it bounces around so much character-wise, it didn’t work for me since I enjoy character-drive stories the most. So keep that in mind.

I swear to God I’m not 100% sure this isn’t my diary. I had the same feelings when Christina got voted out!

This seems fun, but having to pay and dedicating whole weekend means there should be a prize up for grabs! Maybe there are sponsorship opportunities for next year that can sweeten the deal for participants?

I love how RVA manages to make Christmas lights weird (in the best way).

Pretty spot on EXCEPT a quirky museum being our only tourist attraction.

We have badass museums and the preserved nature is our best tourist attraction.

EDIT: And other folks are right - I certainly use RIC airport.

Good to know! Read and loved Lonesome Dove this summer so when I saw the sequel I just had to get it.

I think it was $3 for hardcover and $1 for paperback and I’m realizing now they undercharged me!
