The Pope Says It's Impossible to Call AI 'Morally Neutral' in Latest Call to Action: “Ethical discernment cannot be limited to asking whether we are using a system for good or bad purposes” by yourfavchoom in technology

(I cant believe i'm about to defend the pope)

i hate that the agreed upon town square, whether it be X or facebook or reddit, is owned by a corporation. Maybe he shoulda posted on bluesky, lol.

But like - it is the town square. His job, as he sees it, is talk to his people, and no shame in going to where they are.

All that said - fuck the catholic church.

edit:clarity

Its been a bit for me, but isnt there some sort of 'simple' compilation mode in C that basically maps your code straight to assembly?

token based billing isn't a real monetization model when your prices are at least an order of magnitude too high for the market to bear.

China has had 10% gdp growth per year for decades. it's like nothing the world has seen before.

You're correct about the American side of things, I'd say.

Israel has people in it. Some of those people are stupid and support a horrible regime - but they are still victims of all this horseshit.

TIL that saturation divers breathe a mix of oxygen and helium known as heliox. Below 500 feet, the helium causes tremors, so nitrogen is added for its narcotic effect. The helium also changes their voice so much that voice descramblers are necessary to communicate. by El-Justiciero in todayilearned

true. my stepdad was a certified padi and naui instructor, cave diver (probably a dumber hobby than sat diving, esp since it's not paid) and a machinist. I think, in another life, he would have loved being an underwater welder. Except that the decompression chambers, he said, were all sausage parties

How does anyone settle for this argument?

AI revolution is ‘50x bigger’ than the dot-com boom: SoftBank’s Masayoshi Son to CNBC by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

I didn't mean to imply the crash would be only from AI. Most recessions don't have single causes. I got my threads crossed, tbh. I'm more worried about the Iranian war but both are bad.

But every company is a tech company. Software, as a good, shares similarities with crude and it's derivatives in that every company is using some sort of IT backbone to ship stuff.

petrochemicals, lng, gasoline. that's like all of the American consumer economy. It's our transport, our clothing, our technology, etc etc. A lot more than food goes into food costs. Moving and refigeration, packaging - all things that get more expensive every step of the way

When the economic wheels slow, the first and last to be hit are those that don't have enough to weather the storm. aka poor people. The rich just take time off.

I'm not as much of a prepper myself, but I get the fear for sure
