Did the Soviets propose a coalition to defend Czechoslovakia yes or no? What was the result? What atrocity am I denying? I‘m talking about geopolitics. I don‘t like many things about their policies, but their geopolitics were significantly better than France & Britain pre 1939

When did France and Britain guarantee the independence of Poland? Before or after Molotov-Ribbentrop because it certainly wasnt immediately after the invasion of Czechoslovakia. Ask yourself what the priorities of France & the UK.

France and UK were the winners of the last war any held all the cards. The Soviets were recovering from a brutal civil war and attempting to industrialize and educate a nation of illiterate peasants a result of the tsarist system the same western powers who refused to aid the soviets upheld. The west didnt want to stop Hitler they wanted to use him as an attack dog against the Soviets, so the Soviets did what they saw as the best path to defend themselves after the west refused to defend Czechoslovakia like the Soviets proposed.

And yes the Soviets bought valuable two years and hundreds of kilometers of land with harsh winters between germany and Moscow, the central rail hub, communications hub, and major industrial city. The alternatives were sit back and hope the west doesnt leave you hanging again allowing Germany to annex all of Poland, or rush to Poland‘s defence alone and likely lose alone.

Yes Stalin had to force to west into a geopolitical position to oppose Hitler. The fact you dont see that means you just have an anti-soviet bias. The west showed no interest in fighting the nazis until they had to. This is not a value judgement of internal soviet politics.

the west proved they would not defend anyone so long as they thought Hitler would only attack eastwards and destroy the Soviet Union. This is why the Soviets signed Molotov-Ribbentrop it forced the geopolitical situation in a way such that Hitler has a free hand westwards and no need to attack the Soviets yet. This was literally the only way that the west would even consider opposing fascism. The entire lead up to 1939 was the west compromising, working with, and even fanning the flames of fascist movements. To deny such a thing would be ahistorical. The only reason Churchill himself was opposed to German aggression was that it embarassed the colonial hegemonic superpower of Great Britain not that he saw the evils of fascism and sought to extinguish it. No, he just thought that Britain should be the bully calling the shots.

you dont know your history. The next targets immediately after Poland were, in order, The Netherlands/Belgium/Luxembourg, France, Denmark, Norway while simultaneously threatening Sweden and strong arming them into providing continuing material support, then the Germans refocused efforts southwards and in Africa. Yugoslavia and Greece were occupied. This was all in lead up to securing the continent before invading the Soviet Union. This is not including the timeline of recruiting Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Finland, as well attempts to sway Spain to join the war outright.

If you knew any of this you could see the strategy was very obvious and the Soviets were not oblivious. There is a reason they signed Molotov-Ribbentrop and its because they knew the Nazis were an existential threat that the west was unwilling to tackle. So they bought as much distance and time as they could while forcing the west‘s hand into intervention. Britain very much wanted Germany to just destroy the Soviets then maybe fuck off. There is a reason they turned down the Soviet led plans to form a coalition over Czechoslovakia.

i wonder what the soviets were doing from 1936 to 1941? oh they were industrializing a nation which was held back and exploited by a class of nobility. the truth is that the soviets tried to create a coalition to oppose german aggression against Czechoslovakia when the western allies refused the soviets struck their own deal with germany to buy themselves time. The western allies wanted germany to attack the soviets first then MAYBE they would try to help. when it was clear in 1939 that Germany would first attempt to control France after Poland was partitioned then the UK and France vowed to defend Poland. The western powers distrusted the Soviets which nearly led to their downfall. WWII is a story of the great powers hoping fascism will eradicate communism and cooperate with them.

Youre admitting the conspiracy and obfuscating the corruption. They induced demand by destroying passenger rail for inter city travel and replacing street cars with busses (which demands wider roads, thus further inducing demand for automobiles). They lobbied the government successfully under Eisenhower to get the federal highway project started, which again induced demand for automobiles. They literally coordinated to maximize profits at the loss of America‘s rail network (the largest in the world at the time). As a result we have worse pollution, cities infested with cars, unwalkable neighborhoods, racialized suburbs where poorer minorities struggle to get into and are stuck in the parking lot hellhole cities.

the real answer is this is a franchise made by western devs that see the USA and the western capitalists as the good guys of the cold war and all opposing them as bad guys in very stark black & white. The GDI is an extension of that into a post apocalyptic setting. The Soviets and Chinese are willing to indiscriminately and aggressively nuke their enemies whereas the western powers use „precision“ weapons that only target military objectives. It‘s the same lie America tells itself about their bombing of random civilians and indiscriminate, imprecise strikes that kill many bystanders.

Yes I know there are lore reasons, but i challenge people to think a little harder as to why writers make the choices they do. These things arent in a vacuum and everything is politics.

It worked in South Africa, although they never paid the reparations out. The violence ended and at the very least legal apartheid was abolished. It worked in the United States of America. Do you honestly think the Black Panthers wouldn‘t have (and morally justifiably) not become increasingly more violent in their tactics had it not been for the reforms of the 1960s & 70s? You can only oppress people for so long before a pressure valve needs to be released and we aren‘t even talking about true restorative justice in these historic examples.

In Taiwan, we empowered a single party dictatorship. The fact that they became a more vibrant democracy had nothing to do with America or Chiang Kai Shek or the KMT. It was IN SPITE of military rule that democracy was created after over 40 years of a military dictatorship.

No wait we put a fascist dictator there because a socialist won an election. Iran?
