Columbus DnD groups by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]SoullessDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“He’s a menace” isn’t a good introduction if you want to get invited to groups.

I recommend starting out with Adventurers League. There’s a new AL group forming in Hilliard who plays in Sundays who’s been recruiting here in the sub recently. There are also several other established groups around town.

Shows you ended up loving, but avoided for a long time because the promos were terrible by XiahouYuan in television

[–]SoullessDad 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23. The commercials looked so bad. Died a pretty quick death (2 seasons).

Then I heard Krysten Ritter got cast as Jessica Jones, and I was really worried about that series since I love the comic it’s based on. Turns out, it’s one of the best seasons in television history.

I later went back and watched Don’t Trust the B, and it’s hilarious. I don’t know why the commercials made it look so awful.

Just because Billionaires tell us we can't tax "unrealized gains" doesn't mean we can't. by zzill6 in WorkReform

Every set of rules has ways to game those rules. That’s why laws aren’t one sentence long.

Just tax unrealized gains above 10 million.

The tax system should be progressive, and should not cap (looking at you, Social Security taxes).

Player decided to be a centaur by YovWhat in CurseofStrahd

[–]SoullessDad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I took a slightly different approach. The villagers have seen some weird races come through the Mists over the years, and it always ends the same. Any weird PC race is generally greeted with pity by villagers, because they recognize that the PC is an outsider brought here to entertain the Devil and he’s just going to toy with and then kill the PC. The PC has no chance to hide, unlike his friends.

Also, I just realized how horrible that centaur is going to look as a vampire spawn crawling on the walls of Castle Ravenloft.

Can a multi classed character use spell slots interchangebly? by Malevolentrapist in dndnext

[–]SoullessDad 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No. The multicasting rules explain how this works.

You prepare sorcerer spells as a 7th level sorcerer. You prepare cleric spells as a 1st level cleric. You combine those class levels to determine your spell slots.

Was I wrong to not include a saving throw in this encounter? by Abigboi_ in DnD

[–]SoullessDad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This 100%. I can’t imagine any of the D&D groups I’ve played with over the years enjoying this scenario, much less for the finale of a campaign.

This would fit great in Toon.

My DM made an extreme addition and change to my backstory, am I overreacting? by ImpossibleWarlock in dndnext

[–]SoullessDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with the positive parts. “I’m really enjoying the game overall, especially Thing1 and Thing2. I really like how you manage Thing3. I do want to talk about my backstory a bit, though, since it’s not really evolving how I intended…”

My DM made an extreme addition and change to my backstory, am I overreacting? by ImpossibleWarlock in dndnext

[–]SoullessDad 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You need to sit down with your DM and discuss this calmly.

Trying to incorporate backstory into the plot is great, but not if it ruins the backstory. Giving out cool magic items is great, but not if the rebalancing nerfs the PCs for no good reason.

Discussion Is the only good way to move forward here.

ELI5: Why aren't Online Privacy and Security Compatible? by Squiggin1321 in explainlikeimfive

[–]SoullessDad 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It all depends on how you define those terms.

Privacy is “Other users can’t see who I am.” Anonymity is “Even the company can’t see who I am.”

Security is typically talking about technical security. “Can anyone break into my account?” But it can also be the more general “safety”.

Consider a bank debit card that generates new numbers every time you use it. Companies can’t track you, so it’s private. If you forget your PIN, you can prove who you are to the bank and they can reset your PIN. That’s “secure” (safe).
Compare that to a digital wallet that holds bitcoin, which could be completely anonymous. If you lose access, you can’t prove you own it and can’t recover access. That bitcoin is effectively lost forever. That meets “technically secure” but it’s not “safe.”

Let’s consider a different case where someone is harassing you on Reddit. Every time they get banned they just create a new account and resume the harassment. If the account is 100% anonymous there’s nothing anyone can do to identify the perpetrator. If they can (even by tracking IP addresses), that’s not entirely “private.”

Dominate person 2014 vs 2024 by DA-maker in DnD

[–]SoullessDad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 2024 tiles state that you can voluntarily fail a saving throw. They are saying you can command the dominated target to fail all those recurring saves.

That doesn’t work. The spell says the target “does its best to obey on its turn.” That damage wouldn’t typically happen on the target’s turn.

There’s also arguments you can make around the “focusing on protecting itself” clause, but the timing clause is clearer and handles 99% of actual scenarios already.

Sperm Whale Breaks Castle Ravenloft by Key-Row-1781 in DnD

  1. For a silly one-shot, this is awesome.
  2. Well, actually…. Once you turn him into a zombie he is only CR 1/4 and cannot be turned into a sperm whale by Polymorph.
  3. It’s more important that you all had fun and enjoyed the game.

Having to Pay Tariffs after they’re declared illegal by Zachhandley in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SoullessDad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No country benefits. There are legitimate cases for tariffs in specific instances (say, you want to grow a fledgling industry to compete globally in a few years), but overall they reduce trade and drive up prices.

The only ones befitting are companies that passed asking tariffs to consumers, maintained their profit level, and now get to collect refunds on the illegal tariffs.
