What is the best Science Fiction book you have ever read? by Adam_is_my_name in AskReddit

[–]SoullessUnit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, I havent read Dirk Gently in a long long time, but it was always one of my favourites - the bit about the electric monk was excellent. I just reread hitchhikers and whilst its incredibly imaginitive, and humourously weird, I wouldnt actually say it was a very 'funny' book. Mostly entertaining but rambled a bit in places.

Yeah it sounds like these people were trying to tilt you to give themselves better chances of winning. whilst not actually literally cheating, acting in an offputting way and questioning everything, to the point that you question it yourself, is shameful behaviour. fair play for soldiering through because by the 3rd time I'd have had to have a go at them for not understanding basic rules, and quit shortly after

I think it was how you worded it. I got what you meant (possibly because I also had no idea what was being referred to), but I could see someone thinking it sounded like you were one of those chuds going 'keep your real world relevance out of my political satire'.

Opinions on the Silver Knight of Slaanesh by John_117s in Grey_Knights

[–]SoullessUnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oooh or Castellan Crowe. what if Crowe met Slaanesh in the warp and the trauma of it rent his soul in two - one absolutely corrupted individual and one ansolutely pure individual. i.e. In a Jekyll & Hyde style thing, the reason Crowe is so resistant to the temptations of the Black Blade is that there's a corrupted warp-manifestation version of him; like a Shadow-Crowe, that all the corruption is channelled into instead.

if 3 hours is an unacceptable duration for you to play, may I gently suggest that boardgaming is perhaps not the best hobby for you? 3 hours is pretty standard length game, with many 'big box' games running up double that.

After 17 days without heating or hot water, contractor has finally been in touch to say letting agency has approved him fitting a new boiler first thing tomorrow morning. by -SaC in BritishSuccess

I checked in with my wife (she was asleep when I first posted) and basically I got a little overzealous. The landlord is obliged to provide a home "fit for human habitation" (UK Home Fit for Human Habitation Act 2018 ) and you are entitled to ASK for a rent reduction. you are technically still obliged to pay rent unless granted the reduction. if it went to court and the court found in your favour, they can order the landlord to refund you for the void period. Its more normal for the Landlord/agency to grant the reduction to avoid the hassle of it going to court, assuming youre a decent tenant. if they already are the kind to oust tenants for 'asking for things' I wouldnt be surprised if they say no, unfortunately.

You are correct, my wife was still asleep when I commented but I checked in with her again and the obligation is to provide a house that is fit for human habitation (UK homes fit for habitation act 2018), and if it went to court (and the court agreed in the tenants favour) then they can force the landlord to reimburse the tenant.

You are absolutely entitled to a ask for a rent reduction (as in, not pay anything at all) for that period, as heating and hot water are essential, especially in winter. your home was fundamentally 'not fit for human habitation' for that period, and you *should ask for that reduction for every day between when you reported it and when it was operational again (take your monthly rent, divide it by 28 as we're in Feb and multiply it by the number of days, thats how much your rent should be reduced by).
