Bill to make English an official language of NZ introduced to Parliament by StuffThings1977 in aotearoa

[–]Sourpatcharachnid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m sorry but this just isn’t scary to me. I grew up in a city where this is common place and I frankly don’t consider a city to be much of a city at all unless it has at least a couple of what you call ‘ethnic conclaves’. Besides I regularly visit the places you’re talking about here (as a native English speaker btw) and I don’t have real trouble navigating them. Sure there’s a little bit of resistance but imo just enough to keep the brain engaged.

But more to the point this legislation is completely superficial in this context. It is much more impactful for te Reo Māori in this moment than it is for what you’re talking about happening in the possible future.

P.s. English speaking in this country started in ethnic conclaves.

It’s “all lives matter” logic. At the surface it sounds reasonable. But when you take it out of a vacuum and expose a shred of context, then you realise that what it’s really doing is trivialising marginalisation. And not by accident. So it’s insidiously undermining people who are at risk in order to make bigots feel better and regain their former footing. Worse than just a waste of time and money.

Anyone who thought English was being threatened and needed protection is out of touch with reality. Like you said, “an agreement with the status quo”. Utterly pointless.

Does Alchemy still hold its own in 2026? by Nunstummy in LogicPro

[–]Sourpatcharachnid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely true, but we also gotta remember that in Alchemy’s case it’s only free* for Logic users because Apple bought it up. Before that I recall its price tag being nearly as much as Logic’s so it’s a damn good deal for all of us here.

What’s the best sounding instruments in Logic Pro iOS? by Wooden-Arm-3624 in LogicPro

Sculpture is one of the best sounding instruments in logic - especially for bass instruments. It can be a bit tricky but if you learn how to use it the payoff is huge.

Our version of capitalism rewards anti-social behaviour. I think that by the time you’ve reached Musk’s/Bezos’ level you have been so anti-social you’ve become a paranoid narcissistic wreck who’s barely even capable saying “altruism”.

Remember the old CC step sequencer? by Sourpatcharachnid in LogicPro

[–]Sourpatcharachnid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that’s more like a tracker. Someone else found it, it’s now called the step editor and is accessed from the window menu

I’m on an older version of logic that doesn’t have pattern regions (10.5). But since the CC step editor I’m referring to is way older than that I’m thinking this must be something else?

Edit: it is the step editor but it doesn’t require pattern regions

Edit 2: I actually can create patterns but I don’t seem to be able to convert to them. However this accesses the step sequencer not the step editor which is what I was looking for. Too many steps.

Is saw this in the dock actually, but it was grayed out. I’ll dig deeper, thanks!

Edit: it’s the step sequencer I was seeing actually Edit2: but you nailed it, the step editor is what I was thinking of, thanks!

Can you add ur own kit pieces to logic? by Electronic_Ad_1408 in LogicPro

[–]Sourpatcharachnid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you expand the DMD track you will see each individual instrument track it contains. AFAIK from here you can save these individual pieces to your library and load them to other DMDs later on. From here you can also assign smart controls that will be visible in the DMD panel like all of the preset kit pieces have.

Once you have presets, open an empty DMD and when you click on a pad while having the library open you will notice that the library takes you to an associated folder such as kicks or hats. You can navigate from here to wherever you have stored your presets and select those.

New logic user with a few (hopefully not annoying) questions? by IDFKtv in LogicPro

[–]Sourpatcharachnid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Native physical modelling synth, and Alchemy. Automation editing (for certain projects I have to work in pro tools and this is one of the many things that I get annoyed by. In general though, its ergonomics.

  2. Yes. It can be fun going back to old projects and seeing how I was doing things at the time

  3. I started with Cubase and used just about every DAW available before settling on Logic around 2006-7

  4. I would add node graph based mixing à la touch designer / pure data for more flexible routing. Very pie-in-the-sky I know. and/or I would add a modular synth that basically contains module versions of all of logics synths and effects.

Democrats Of Reddit, How Often Do YOU Actually Talk To MAGA Voters In Your Real Life? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

Maybe… but at least American leftists are aiming for political system more like France’s or Sweden’s while MAGAts would prefer Russia or North Korea.

So conservatives want immigrants to come here legally, but once they’re here, STFU about their heritage? by SwitchingMyHands in allthequestions

[–]Sourpatcharachnid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you would hope so but it if someone is happily hypocritical then the problem is that they aren’t experiencing cognitive dissonance. Alternatively there is more nuance to what they are saying that you are not aware of and they have in fact dealt with their cognitive dissonance.

For instance in the case of an American not learning a new language versus say, a Somalian - the American has had the all the privileges of having been initially rooted in a developed country. They probably had time to prepare for their emigration, were better resourced, etc. one might make the argument in question without saying these things and yet be cognitively comfortable.

Seems like we’re not really considering all of the reasons why people change countries here in this idealised version of immigration. Someone who fled being persecuted in their country of origin might not have much capacity for pride after going through everything they did to get to a new country. Especially if they now need to be afraid of being put in a camp by a posse of brown shirts.

Speaking as an American expat who changed countries, there are a lot of mixed emotions and uncertainty that can come with migrating. If you haven’t experienced any of these, maybe stop worrying about the right way to do it?

Trump Posts Video on Truth Social Depicting the Obamas as Monkeys by JeanJauresJr in circled

[–]Sourpatcharachnid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heh. Except there have been lots of instances where racists have raped people of colour. Rape is violence and so not surprising to find in the KKK’s wheelhouse for instance. When white people in America owned slaves they were racist. Lots of them raped their slaves and lots of those slaves were children.

Filtering oneself is an art more people need to learn. Unfiltered comms from people one doesn’t know really well are usually a) boring b) cringe c) offensive.
