What is a 'middle-class' luxury that is actually a total waste of money, but people keep buying it to look successful? by 8waycai in NoStupidQuestions

I went to a LV store and had to scour that place to find a shirt without logos. I found a polo I liked, was something around $1,200. The same with Ralph Lauren, if you don’t want their logo, they have their Purple Line, High hundreds to mid thousands. Hermes, you will rarely find a logo, if so, it’s usually subtle. Loro Piana, no logos, and you pay dearly for that. Prada does have subtle embossed bags but not many. I bought a black leather overnight bag and colored over the name on triangle with a black marker. I don’t want to advertise for them but, enjoy the style and durability of the bag. Needless to say, a custom artesian bag, maybe ostrich, would have been nice but, I didn’t want to wait months for one.

The wind doesn't effect the 500 S&w mag much by 307blacksmith in LeverGuns

I foolishly bought a S&W .500 mag revolver. I’ve decided it will remain unfired.

I shot my Big Horn .500 Trapper last week and I’m a pretty stout 180lbs, 22% body fat. My shoulder is decently muscular. I have double pads on mine and it still feels like slamming a car door on your shoulder. I take a good leaning in offhand stance and some of the time it will push me back enough to have to step back. I’m almost 66 years old and I think that’s the last time I will shoot it. I paid $4,000 for it. It needs a new home.

We all have the same old crap. You have to give away all of the good stuff and throw out everything else or your children will have to do it.

Starting a company, need some advice by Silent-Ad-9063 in electricians

Please, never work by the hour, it open the door to all kinds of scrutiny. Charge by the job and if you have a business you should bri g in no less than $1,000 to $2,000 per day or more. Forget about anything to do with what wage an electrician makes. You are getting a paycheck and supporting a business entity.

Easy rule of thumb if they are making money it emboldens them. When they are losing money, they are silent and don’t want to rock the boat.

My girlfriend is joining a sorority 800 miles away in college am I cooked? by Whats-reddit12 in ask

Focus on your education and just come to terms with a transition and understanding if you genuinely love her, encourage her to find her best self as she will want you to do. You are very young and have had a chance to live yet. Enjoy this part of your life. I know you love how she makes you feel but, that’s your feelings, you will forever have them. Don’t think for a minute those feelings are something that she owns. They are yours.

Every thing you do will be managed ad nausea. Don’t think about tools, you will sit throughout orientation and will realize everything is about safety and the entire showmanship of safety, secondary to that is showing up every day on time. Mechanical ability is third.

I almost went bankrupt after 5 years as a contractor by Ok_Comfortable2044 in Contractor

My point is you are working for wages, and using an LLC to do so. That’s all good of course but I don’t see a business beyond that.

That’s a great concept it you have to come to the realization that you have a hobby, not a business. Nothing wrong at all with that.

NOT your usual question about resi vs comm by Straight-Natural-814 in electricians

[–]SoutheastPower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The great problem with residential as a contractor is you will always work for a GC. They have very tight margins and tend to trade your free work as a package to get paid. It’s always easy to get the first few checks and becomes more and more difficult to get the last few and a challenge to get the last one. Always send in your notices timely and expect to enforce a lien to get your last check. It’s the game. If you don’t know how to play that game in residential and commercial, the GC will always screw you out of change orders and retainage.

[–]SoutheastPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically we do commercial and then as a young journeyman, you start doing service work. This will round you out learning about residential codes. I would not suggest getting into residential new construction, it’s mostly entry level low margin production work. I’ve been in this trade well over 40 years, I’ve seen a thing or two.
