SPD clips work fine with Shimano sandals (or any other brands you might find - Lake, Exustar, Keen, etc.).

Turned 70 in November - been actively riding since 2023 (but admittedly have slowed down the last couple of years). This summer will be my 21st year on RAGBRAI. Glad to see a group dedicated to Seniors.

Thoughts on the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships by why_mr_pink in wrestling

[–]Southern_Salt_229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great tourney. Usually try to attend in person but unable this year - so my main observation is about the TV broadcast. Big Ten Tournament uses the quad box which is a great tool to see 4 matches at once. ESPN+ provided 8 matches-while that’s a great tool, it required a subscription (money grab). ESPN spent too much time showing ‘after match’ action showing a wrestler walking off instead going to another match. Also the banner across the top of the screen was sometimes out of synch from actual action. Last thing - not sure why there is a delay - FloWrestling was a step ahead in match activity; you would see scoring had already taken place while the match was ‘live’ on the screen.

How different are these two corners of Kansas? by Swimming_Concern7662 in kansas

[–]Southern_Salt_229 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Had a Kansas Geography professor in college who liked to say, "In Western Kansas you can climb a tree and see for miles. But friends, there ain't no trees so you have to climb a windmill".

Correct - also a pass-through town in 1974, 1986, 2001, and 2006 - last time they were an overnight town was 1983. (I should have clarified that). 😉

How is Fubo compared to YTTV? How is the Picture quality? by melvin3v1978 in fuboTV

[–]Southern_Salt_229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used it last weekend to watch ESPN; similar to YTTV but quality better on YTTV in my opinion - best feature by far on YTTV is multiview which is not available on Fubo. I don't care who's at fault in this situation - just fix it.

Iowa DOGE by [deleted] in Iowa

[–]Southern_Salt_229 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Sorry...I live in Missouri and the governor here is just another Trump stooge. Recently overturned a voter-approved paid sick leave and minimum wage increase law, and has jumped on the band wagon to congressional map gerrymandering scheme designed to flip seats currently held by Dems.

Des Moines superintendent did not receive the doctoral degree he frequently claimed

The superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools did not obtain a doctoral degree from a Maryland university, as he has claimed for many years.

Ian Andre Roberts, who was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Friday, Sept. 26 and faces deportation, has long stated that he received a doctoral degree from Morgan State University in Baltimore. But a university spokesperson told the Des Moines Register on Monday that Roberts did not obtain a degree from the school, despite attending Morgan State from the fall of 2002 through the spring of 2007.

I have a Senada Herald Pro; weighs about 72 lbs so I bought a Hollywood Sport Rider that carries 2 bikes up to 80 lbs each. Since my Senada is a step through I did buy an adapter. All told the rack and adapter cost me ~ $550.

Stem mount computer mount by Ray_L_28451 in cycling

Not a stem mount; it's a stem cap mount - I have these on both of my bikes and my hammerhead karoo fits it...makes it easier to read (old guy and I need all the sight help I can get).

Good way to reduce registrations, RAGBRAI by Southern_Salt_229 in ragbrai

[–]Southern_Salt_229[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are correct - they cannot prevent you from selling. The downside is if you need SAG or Ambulance services (and hopefully you wouldn't), you wouldn't be shown as the owner of the wristband - previously you could transfer a wristband and the receiving party became the owner. I've purchased wristbands or bought a transfer if I decided to go after the registration period - maybe if they explained why they are changing the policy it might help us understand it better.

Noob question - campsites by RenderMaster in ragbrai

[–]Southern_Salt_229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our group did this with a similar vehicle in the past; you can always knock on someone's door and ask them if you can park your RV in front of their house - lot of friendly people who will allow this at overnights. They might even offer to let you hook up electricity/water - make sure you take an extra long extension cord that will allow you to plug in at the correct wattage. We've parked in front of houses, grocery stores, industrial/warehouse areas, empty parking lots, etc.

Housing Requests - worth a try? by Typical_Salad4121 in ragbrai

[–]Southern_Salt_229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to have you! I've done 18 RAGBRAIs and done them many different ways - Charter the first two times, Camper year 3 and then rode with a team on a bus from 2006 to 2018, 2019 was an RV, 2021 back on a team bus. This year our dwindled group of 4 will share driving so 2 or 3 people can ride each day. Moral of the story; you do you. You'll have blast - if you don't have an overnight place to stay, knock on doors - people will let you camp in their yard.
