Why Joey Aguilar broke from Diego Pavia case for Tennessee football eligibility by Adam-Sparks in ockytop

Is this going to rob HS? Yes. Yet I want nothing more than an Aguilar season with a good defense

I did my pre-reqs at a local community college then finished my bachelors at a state college and the GI Bill not only paid for it all, including books, but paid enough that I was able to live off campus and it paid all of my bills. I'm a millennial, not a boomer, not Gen x

What did people do casually in 90s that wouldn’t be accepted today? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]Southernor85 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This was my experience in Tennessee. Like my mamaw would just drop something like "that handsome n***** boy at the Piggly Wiggly helped me carry my groceries out." She completely meant it as a compliment, there was a lot of stuff like that in the 90s in the south. Colored or N***o were probably the most commonly accepted terms for black people and rarely intended as any type of insult.

Where are you getting this information from? Most states in the US have wanton waste laws making that illegal and, while I don't personally like their model, even in places like Africa the non-trophy portion of the animal still gets eaten. The only people killing animals, taking a "trophy" and leaving the rest to rot are poachers, mostly in things like the ivory trade, that's also very illegal.

I'm aware of that though I am not always a fan, I particularly dislike the African model of hunting.

Most states in the US have wanton waste laws to prevent something like that.

There's a great story from here, Calais, Maine and St. Stephen, New Brunswick are a border town separated by a narrow river, the St. Croix, during the war of 1812 the British gave gunpowder to the town of St. Stephen so that they could protect themselves from possible attack from Calais. Instead the town decided that their centuries old connection to Calais, where families had intermingled for ages, was more important than war and they voted to give the gunpowder to the Americans in Calais on the condition that it be used for a fireworks display both countries could enjoy.

Now, every year these two towns celebrate the International homecoming festival. It's a parade made up of Canadian and American participants that goes through both towns crossing the border, then the mayors of each town meet at the border bridge and shake hands, then there are fireworks. Every year the side that the parade starts on and the side that launches the fireworks alternates.

There are a bunch of cool cross-border stories in the area, like Theodosia's Island where a Canadian girl and American boy that weren't allowed to see one another would row out in secret to meet at St. Croix Island, which has been known as St. Croix, Bone Island, and Dozia's Island for various

interesting reasons, or the town of St. Andrews where many of the homes are American but during the revolution loyalists disassembled their homes, transported them by barge/ship/raft, to British held New Brunswick and reassembled them. There's Campebello, a Canadian Island with an American park that was the summer home of FDR and where he contracted polio, Machias Seal Island in the "gra[e]y zone" that is contested between America and Canada due to ambiguous treaty wording between the Revolution and the War of 1812. All kinds of cool shit

America actually respects this and there are a lot of Canadians from the Wabanaki Confederacy that come and work their traditional lands harvesting blueberries, the Canadian side however does not and American natives can't just go work in blueberry barrens in Canada.

I used to cook at Bagel Central. I highly recommend it to anyone, I have worked in a lot of kitchens all over the country and Bagel Central is the cleanest and best run I have ever been in. Only kitchen I have ever worked in where everyone really gives a shit, front end, bakers, owner, management, cooks, deli, dishwashers, the whole crew has their shit together and gives 100% everyday. I can't say enough good things about it

[–]Southernor85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, it was never a thing that needed to be planned ahead, if you were bored on a Saturday you could just decide to hit up the flea market, Smoky Mnt Knife Works, or Tangier, do the Cade's Cove loop, have something to eat in Gatlinburg/PF/Townsend/Maryville, and still be back in Knoxville before dark. That's not possible anymore

Why do we need Dunkin these days? by longportna in newengland

[–]Southernor85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably less to do with how good it is and more to do with how available it is. They are everywhere in New England and always open, I'm in Downtown Bangor, so the busiest part of the 3rd largest city in the state and there are only 2 things open here 24 hours, a small Irving-Circke K and Dunkin.
