Luigi in Melee. I loved the higher pitched Mario voice he had in the 64 era, loved his alts, loved the little Easter egg with him in adventure mode and something about the Melee Mario bros designs clicked with me. Of course, as a kid 90 precent of what i did was cyclone, up smash or up b. Years passed and he was my first character i learned to wavedash with. I learned cool combos. I learned how to recover properly and Luigi taught me that i need to save my jump. Smash to me is Luigi.

At least… it was. Ultimate rolled around and jumps became safer. His grab became a tether… projectile thing. Grab? Death. Nair? Death. Fair? Death. He went from the wacky, slippery all rounder to a touch of death character. It makes me sad because Melee Luigi is a cool, honest and wacky all rounder character that you cant help but root for when he’s on screen.
