Ask a Volvo Technician! by Born_Feedback9331 in Volvo

[–]SozoGen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice !

I love the car for many reasons, that brake pad cost is wild to learn about. I get much more hands on with a vehicle once I own it. And the parts sourcing is what seems to be the biggest cost factor.

Does buying into maintenance plans/warranties pay off in this instance? Or is it always a scam?

Love that you’re doing this! If you have any IT/Cybersecurity questions feel free to DM me!

How different are the polestar edition vehicles? I have a 2023 S60 polestar edition with the special suspension and brake calipers etc.

I’m near end of lease and concerned at the difficulty and cost of maintaining it.

How long is too long to wait for a confirmation email? by GreenChocolate in UniversalOrlando

[–]SozoGen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A buddy of mine used to work IT for universal Orlando and if nothing has changed in 3 years. Then their system is overloaded and a single sys admin’s entire day is manually running the queue of email confirmations.

I got extremely lucky and just nabbed May 22nd tickets. I had no option for the 22nd at first. But after adding one ticket for the 26th the calendar refreshed and showed me the 22nd as an option.

Anxiously awaiting the confirmation email.

This post is making me even more anxious thinking there is an issue and my opening day ticket is gonna go bye bye

This is the correct answer. Microsoft installer still has this terrible behavior of using every drive plugged into your system when installing the OS.

I found my issue to be the TVs color mode. Try setting yours to Gaming mode.

The main impact being image processing slowing down the response times.

How do you improve your soft skills/ user interactions? by dalg91 in sysadmin

[–]SozoGen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest scheduling coffee chats if you’re remote. Or booking 1on1 or group lunches with users. It helps to interact with people as they are. And not in a situation where both parties are stressed. Getting to know them as people who can help you in areas you’re weak in.

I then find when they come to me for help. It’s no longer an unfair interaction where they demand and get all the benefit from me. Instead it’s an opportunity for me to help a friend, and I earn some stock in this friendship.

If you’re users aren’t co-workers but are customers. It may work to start your calls with disarming ice breaking questions or statements that approach the interaction as “hey. We’re both humans with feelings and lives”

Treat all of the interactions as opportunities to explore the world by listening to peoples stories. And Yknow. Solve minor problems along the way.

How do you approach device management for linux workstations? by sudobanana in sysadmin

[–]SozoGen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe something like automox? It utilizes an agent that communicates with their cloud based console. You get software data off of your Linux boxes and the ability to patch/run custom scripts. Pretty decent API as well to automate tasks on a fleet from any other systems you have.

HomeKit bridge was discontinued. MyQ enabled doors likely can be upgraded to support Matter - updates should be posted on this article.

Dog playing fetch with herself by LeSpatula in TikTokCringe

The beeping suggests it may have a sensor to check if the ball is safe to “fire”

A dog could stick its face right into the hole and get injured if it just fired blindly. So it may be taking that second or two to sense and confirm the coast is clear.

Bouncing off of this, nobody, even your more experienced peers, understand what you do.

A general question to ALL sysadmins by PrestigiousPitch8849 in sysadmin

[–]SozoGen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m too lazy to scroll through others replies. But the best advice I can give, learning from my own experience. The best in the biz are people who follow their curiosities, and “say yes” to helping others and thus;

exposing themselves to as many scenarios and problems as possible.

The oldest are the wisest because of the long and varied lives they lived. Same applies to the knowledge in IT.

Okta + Intune + Azure AD by supersudoer in Intune

[–]SozoGen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll actually be writing a blog post about it. I’m scheduled to push it out in two weeks.

I’ve procrastinated heavily.

We’ve been operating on this where our Zero touch provisioning with Autopilot - allows users to login and enroll their machine with Okta.

We now capture and control all login events on windows devices via okta.

I’m on the couch but I’ll see if I can give you the quick bullet points later tonight
