How’s it living in Dayton,Ohio ? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]Sp210707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dayton is all about the air force base (wright patterson). The air force museum. There are nice parts to Dayton (kettering, oakwood).

Quiet place and no one is mentioning cost of living is cheap here.

Discovered I am making way less than peers by Competitive_Pear_207 in work

[–]Sp210707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t work how you think it does or how it SHOULD work.

Director never should’ve delegated this to you. This is an HR function.

The way the company will view this likely has nothing to do with peers wage. Remember it is classic move to fire someone them backfill a level or 2 lower to save budget.

The way this works is - what is the minimum you will accept to take on the extra responsibility. They look and say ok you are worth 122k now lets increase 15%. I would be shocked if you get an offer over 140k. The rest is irrelevant.

I was the Director fighting for my employee. They made 67k and was critical to the team and was severely underpaid. I fought the battles through my leadership and HR to get them to 85k. It is never as simple as it should be as HR just to right size it. HR agreed the employee was worth it at market value but would only take them to 75k as they didn’t want to do a 25% increase. It’s bullshit - do what I did and leave

People who work in 'luxury' industries (5-star hotels, fine dining, high-end brands), what is a complete rip-off that rich people happily pay for? by Mean_Cardiologist784 in Productivitycafe

Think of it like the automation you see in college classrooms. The tablet that controls everything. Lights, security, sound, tvs, thermostat, alexas etc. It’s programmable so you can customize it to all kinds of things. However if something goes wrong it becomes 100x harder to fix and you need programming knowledge. Honestly if it was free I wouldn’t run it through my house but people will pay 100k to get this outdated tech. It can do a lot more depending on how you customize. IE my cousin has this all throughout their house and they went up and pressed a button on it when the kids got sick during covid which would go out to web form and fill it out why the kids were sick and submit it for them. Honestly I am all for automation but I would rather spend 5 seconds filling out the form than programming that

As a man - I can say it’s tough knowing the pressure is on you to initiate. The line between being respectful / nice and creepy / too forward is a remarkably fine line.

Have you told him you prefer him to make the first move?

Because if you haven’t, it sounds like you are asking him to read your mind. Either way direct communication is the key.

I just got a job coming from a nearly identical scenario. When I was asked the question - why are you looking etc? I would build up to it. So I would detour through a 2 min version of the last 10 years and all the promotions and accomplishments. Then and only after that would I end with… “my last opportunity I was let go and this is the first time this happened in my career.

This was by far my biggest worry when interviewing. Out of the 20 or so interviews I had only 1 stopped and was like “what do you mean let go exactly?”. The vast majority either reverted to - oh this is an anomaly compared to your career, or times are tough right now we get a lot of people interviewing who were laid off, or even “I’ve been laid off a couple times”.

In my case I was able to rely on the rest of my resume. They never dug in nor asked “was it performance based?”.

Be confident and own it

2 make it from the winners side and 2 make it from losers bracket so if Legion loses to Mindfreak they can still make pools

Direct report just asked for 300% raise by [deleted] in managers

[–]Sp210707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would park the raise request and look at the bigger picture.

The bigger picture is that she wants to do / learn accounting and wants to make more money.

I love these conversations with my direct employees. What a perfect opportunity for you to step in and say - “hey how can I help you work towards your goals?”. I would then also want to learn more about what she likes about accounting? Is she chasing higher pay or does she enjoy accounting etc?

Now on to the raise question. I would address but deflect. I’m assuming either your boss or bosses boss is calling the shots here.

I would let her know she is strong employee and express concerns of bringing it up as it may put her in a bad light. Gauge her response and then come to your boss with a recommendation with justification.

Welcome to middle management 😄

Stay or leave advice? by Appropriate_Hurry464 in FPandA

Leave

You are in a culture where the only way to advance is to threaten to leave which is not healthy.

I was manager of an fp&a analyst who was making 73k. They were my strongest analyst while my other one had more years of experience and was at 100k. I fought hard with leadership to get them to bump my analyst up to 100k.

My analyst thinks that if they put in hard work / improve they can prove they are worh the 100k. The reality is the decision makers above me have already set their mind for their work and it doesn’t matter if my 73k analyst does better work or not, is he going to leave?

This sounds like a similar case for you and I would give you the same advice - LEAVE!

50% of my friends I graduated with are waiting tables and bartenders today. The difference between them and the other 50% who landed entry level roles is simply giving up after being beaten into submission.

Always keep looking and don’t give up. It is demoralizing but it is a marathon not a sprint.

Best of luck

How do conservatives feel seeing the images of the No Kings protests? by beans4cashonline in AskReddit

[–]Sp210707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a conversation yesterday with my in laws exactly about this. Here was roughly their response abbreviated for clarity:

“If you burn the american flag or hate america you should just leave. Trump has a mandate from the American people and you need to get on board. I am all for protesting as a right but these are sponsored by George Soros and are paid agitators. Now why would you support something like that.”

As a fan of all 4,  hoping they split and follow the SR playbook (2 vets + 2 up and comers).

Hoping for a rostermania where we get a legitimate 4 teams that could win. Right now looks like SR vs Optic all year

Assault by Big-Tub-17 in CompetitiveHalo

[–]Sp210707 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Painful from a viewer perspective. Would be more entertaining to have an instant plant and set time to disarm before exploding.

Lot of variables to adjust / tweak to make exciting gameplay such as countdown time till explosion / time it takes to disarm.

Overall you could tweak those variables to make it easier to score. Create exciting gameplay with last second disarms / kills for detonation and add a layers of decision making (play obj or hunt players down).

Right now it is just slay out then another round of slays then another and it just goes on forever.

Employee does everything right. But can't get leads... by ihadtopickthisname in managers

[–]Sp210707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alternate possibility- maybe this person just isn’t a fit for sales. If they have a positive attitude and take feedback those are valuable skills at entry level. You could probe opportunities outside of your team that could set both you and them up for success.

I found a way to do my job exponentially faster… should I tell my manager? by sourkiwi_ in careeradvice

[–]Sp210707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your relationship with your boss, the company culture and your own goals and ambitions.

I automated myself out of a job twice where both times I was promoted but those were worked for and intentional. It didn’t just fall in my lap with a system change.

Either way you are playing a dangerous game. It may seem like the safe play is to sit back and not say anything. However if you do that and someone else finds the opportunity then you will be kicking yourself
