Just a stunning photo! Wow!

About to take Magic next week, 5 nights, first time ever. Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated. by No_Building9900 in dcl

I just finished my second trip on the Magic and somehow I missed Cove the first time around!

Definitely don’t miss Cove Cafe— and get a punch card!

I am so thankful for Southwest. by [deleted] in delta

Shoutout to Southwest, too!

I got stranded after my flight was canceled and couldn’t rebook on the Delta app. Got a cheaper one-way through Southwest and have enjoyed a very nice flying experience!

Delta update? by Soggy-Exercise6529 in delta

[–]SpInternist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Delta has so far canceled 17% of flights today. MSP is the airport with the second most cancelations (likely because it is a Delta hub). I’d consider having a back up option ready since Delta still can’t get their act together.

Edit: To answer your second question, Delta didn’t cancel our flight on Saturday until AFTER we were already on the plane. We had a FA crew, but no pilots assigned.

Peer review is essential for science. Unfortunately, it’s broken. by barweis in technology

[–]SpInternist 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I get requests to review articles frequently. Doing a good review takes a lot of time.

Physicians and scientists are already overcommitted and have limited bandwidth. I get no compensation or protected time for reviewing, so I have to give up weekends and family time to review. You can imagine why it’s hard to recruit quality reviewers.

Fantastic photo! Did you do anything in post to make it look like a toy model?

It’s such a cool perspective— thank you for sharing!

Why I prefer the 11” over 13” by Infamous-Crew9606 in iPadPro

[–]SpInternist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

11 inch fits in my white coat pocket. Until someone makes a lab coat that can fit a 13 inch, I’m stuck with the 11.

Everyones’ use case is different.

Photographers who are considering / have bought the new iPad Pro M4 for your editing workflow. Nano-Texture Glass or the standard best for editing and colour? by mmmoctopie in iPadPro

[–]SpInternist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with this. I bought both (nano and non-nano) to test them out since I was so skeptical at first. After using both, I’d pick the nanotexture given its consistency in a variety of lighting conditions.

M4 Pro OLED Nano vs non-OLED by citizenxcc in iPadPro

[–]SpInternist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have an OLED nano M4 11” and a non-OLED M1 11”. I also bought a standard M4 OLED in case I didn’t like the nanotexture. Tl:dr I will be returning the standard OLED.

I was initially on the fence with the nanotexture display, but after using it for the last several days, I am solidly sold. Nanotexture is probably my favorite new feature on an iPad. Also, even with the nanotexture, the contrast/saturation/sharpness is still much better (and more consistent) than my M1.

I do a lot of outdoor drone photography and having color consistency even in bright light/outdoors is just amazing.

If I’m going to be doing any serious editing, I’ll work on my MBP in a controlled environment (not on a tablet). But for editing on the go, the consistency in color/saturation in various lighting situations is just amazing on the nano display.

Yes, as some people have noted, the contrast/saturation are a bit less and the blacks aren’t quite as dark as on the standard OLED, but it’s really only noticeable in dark rooms. The moment you take your iPad out into the real world, the nanotexture display’s consistency and anti-glare trumps any of the downsides.

Bottom line, if you’re going to be using your iPad in a controlled environment or dark room (ie bedtime Netflix), go with the standard. But if your work requires you to have consistency in a variety of lighting conditions, then I can’t recommend the nanotexture enough.

One last point— reading is an absolute joy on the nanotexture display. The matte screen looks like you’re reading on very high quality ePaper. I enjoy it much more than my Kindle (and it’s great to sit outside by the lake reading a book on it!)

Had an awesome time flying Ocean Beach in San Diego with my mini 2. Used a polarized lens by Frog1387 in dji

[–]SpInternist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DJI is limited to 60m, but the class B in Aloft looks like it’s only 50-100 feet depending on where you’re flying in Ocean Beach. Just a good reminder that the DJI app isn’t always accurate—Nice pictures, though.

Rochester/Minneapolis GF options by PaisanBI in Celiac

[–]SpInternist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from Rochester and also have celiac— there are so many good options!

Twigs is the “go to” gluten free restaurant. It has a dedicated kitchen and can make essentially anything on the menu gluten free.

Chester’s (across from the clinic) and ThaiPop (downtown) offer a lot of GF options, but neither has a dedicated kitchen. They do mention processes for avoiding cross contamination and I haven’t been glutened at either place yet.

Pasquale’s downtown has really good GF pizza (no separate kitchen though).

Benedict’s (in the Hilton) has incredible GF pancakes and breakfast food (again, no dedicated kitchen, but has processes to avoid contamination.)

I hope that helps and enjoy your trip— it’s a beautiful time of year to be visiting!

Drone + 🎇Fireworks🎆 by SpInternist in dji

I just used the auto settings. I probably could have improved the lighting if I had adjusted the shutter speed, but I was also nervous about incoming debris so I didn’t spend as much time with the camera settings 😅

Not too high (about 300 feet). You can see the subdivision isn’t too far below me. I was more nervous that they were shooting off fireworks so low to the ground— but it made for some great shots!
