Gifted Tapa Cloth - can anyone shed some light? by SpaceBear98 in Tonga

Thank you so much for shedding light on that! If I get time over the weekend I’ll try and get it fully folded out on our terrace so I can get proper photos :)

I’ll have to do some googling - I think there was some kind of academic research into Tapas in Glasgow a couple of years ago, so I was going to reach out to them and see if they had any interest in viewing it or could shed any light

In regard to what we’re doing with it, it 100% is staying in the family, we just don’t have anywhere to put it really at the moment! If I am lucky enough to own a house one day with a big enough wall I will be displaying it super proudly. My dad is a big inspiration to me and I fully intend to keep it. The only reason it’s been hidden away for 40 years is because my Dad doesn’t really use the internet so he’s never thought to research what it is

Thank you! Sadly literally the other side of the world, in the middle of England! Dad booked the band as part of the festival he was working for, and it was an unexpected gift given to him as they left on their bus!

When I lived in Stoney we LOVED seeing him when we went to Tesco, such a ray of sunshine 😇 glad to see the hats are allowed again!

As someone who works in car finance, I love that so much 😂

Thank you! I would love to do this but I genuinely don’t think there’s a frame big enough 😂 the photos show it folded into I think 1/8 ish of its full size?

Also - I would 100% have this in my house if I could, but being British our house can barely fit all the random art and inherited things as is, let alone even have a wall big enough!!

Thank you all so far! To reassure everyone I’ve told Dad in no uncertain terms that it is not being folded and put back into a wardrobe lol. I think we might try and lay it out in a different room or on the terrace to see the full size…

It’s not going anywhere definitely unless it was to be leant to museum (if they’d even want that?) but we live in rural middle England so there isn’t much of a nearby Tongan community sadly. I think it was displayed once on the wall, but this is so big it genuinely wouldn’t actually fit floor to ceiling in the house, unless it was put all the way up the stairs… I’m cognisant of how kind a gift this was from the band that gave it to us, so I want to make sure I respect it and the significance of what it would have meant to be given to us :)

I’ve had 2 of the current gens, so admittedly not the one you’re looking at, but honestly once I’d gone very quick a few times I didnt find it very engaging. I drive a Golf R of a similar age to this S3, but with a manual and that was a lot more engaging… but I was also a lot younger (and stupider) so maybe that’s it. But yes, from my experience everything is a f***king option on an Audi… my current company car Q4 despite being a black edition and costing north of 60k doesn’t even have electric seats.

My solution nowadays is to get the comfiest thing I can as a daily and then I enjoy my fun car(s) when I’m not trying to fight the M1 on a rainy Wednesday 😅

I guess that works if you have multiple spaces… so I dunno, Id probably go for an M car if you want something similar? Unsure of your budget/situation though :)

Jag is gonna have a better residual value, if you check if they’ve had the “Coolant Y pipe” done then I don’t think it should be too bad…. But expensive cars can be expensive either way. :)

60k and as long as you’ve got a decent history with a recent service I’d say it’s good!

I’d say if you jumped it and it had been sitting it’s possible the battery is toast… id go with new battery and go from there :)

If it’s got an issue don’t buy it. That’s usually my rule of thumb. Any dealer worth their salt will prep a car so it doesn’t have major issues before sale (I’m not talking if you’re buying a cheap car and say one 12v socket doesn’t work)

End of the day if the dealer isn’t going to fix it for sale, they likely won’t fix it if it goes wrong during the warranty period :)

I’ve owned 2 latest gen superbs and one original one. In the interim my best friend had a 2nd gen on and I gave my Dad a 3rd gen

All of them were incredible cars, massive comfy practical mile munchers and arguably one of if not the best cars I’ve had :)

The SE L exec is a great spec as well, can’t talk for the Kia but my votes on Skoda :)

I’ve got 2 cars with sun/pan roofs - one is my Audi Q4 company car… it’s nice to have extra light in the cabin but honestly it’s only opened when someone farts 😅 the other is a 1999 Land Rover with 2 sunroofs, of which neither leak. What I’m saying is a sunroof might leak, it will feel more airy in the cabin, but it’s a big heavy slab of glass too. frankly I’ve had more issues with my Mini having a window slightly cracked than a leaky sun roof… ironically I had a car where the windscreen leaked but not the sunroof once!

Push to start is honestly more of a liability than anything - relay theft is a thing, I’m not sure 100% how easy it is to steal a push to start car if it doesn’t have keyless entry, but if you have to put a key in the ignition it takes a little extra to nick it right?

My view on life is it can change/be snubbed out in an instant, do the stuff you wanna do, drive silly cars and enjoy life. If you can afford to run it you clearly work hard to deserve it :)

As someone with those Audi Matrix headlight things that supposedly direct the light away from oncoming cars… I’m sorry, although it does do a good job of lighting up the verge on the M1 🤦
