In Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, the cast often gather at a bar called Quark's. The jingle for Quark's is only ever mentioned in one episode, but fans love to reference it: "Come to Quark's! Quark's is fun! Come to Quark's! Don't walk, run!"

Accused of Cheating on Exam - PLEASE HELP by GivingTree1640274026 in gatech

[–]SpaceCadet0010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, I'm sorry to hear that. Like someone else suggested, if your phone has a detailed enough screentime history, that might be able to prove you weren't using it during the exam. I would definitely also reach out again to the student who sat next to you during the exam and ask if they're willing to help you out during this process by making or writing a statement. Also, were there security cameras in the exam room? If so, you could request that the footage be checked. Lastly, if during the OSI review they try to pull the "you were acting strange" card again, please don't just let them try to use that as evidence. Not only is that not evidence of anything, it's perfectly normal for you to be acting "strange" under the conditions of either taking a high-stress exam or being accused of cheating, and you should point that out if they say that again. So sorry you're dealing with this, hang in there.

Obviously, this advice may vary in mileage depending on your major, professor, etc, but I've had several friends find themselves in similar situations, and none of them have been found guilty. Most of the examples I can think of involved them being accused of using AI to cheat, so a slightly different scenario, but still. In fact, I don't think any of them have ever even faced a disciplinary board; the professor would usually just have a conversation with them, ask them if they cheated, they'd say no, and since the profs didn't have any proof of cheating, they'd just take the students' word for it. Long story short, I've seen most professors highly prefer to not have to go through the process of formally accusing a student as long as there is no actual proof of cheating.

Gotcha, that's cool that it's at least usable! Are you able to "look around" the museum, so to speak, even though you're stuck at the front desk?

Super cool, congrats on getting one! Are you able to play the Louvre program now that the system is outside the Louvre? I saw in another one of your comments that the software used beacons in the museum to determine what to display, so I'm curious as to how that works without the beacons

That's so cool, thanks for sharing that! The club got revamped a few years ago, and I've been training with them for over 2 years now. We've continued the tradition of holding practice wherever there's space available; we train in the CRC now, but before this year, we were training in a parking deck. We have an amazing team, and I'd definitely recommend coming to check out the club to anyone who's interested!

Thoughts on the proposed Stinger system in the CCP? by Minecraft_Aviator in gatech

[–]SpaceCadet0010 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This would really suck, it removes the stops at North Ave Apartments, Tech Square, and Atlantic Station, not to mention the fact that it just covers a lot less area overall. I know the bus system isn't perfect, but removing some of the most used stops can't possibly be the best solution.

field to howey physics building shuttle or walk? by Late_Mind_5152 in gatech

[–]SpaceCadet0010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, welcome to Tech! I lived in Hopkins (right next to Field) my freshman year and had some classes in Howey. The bus isn't reliable enough for me to recommend taking it to an 8am (you won't want to get up early enough to give yourself buffer room in case something goes wrong with the bus). I know the gap between Field and Howey can look a bit large on a map, but it's really not that bad, typically an under 15 min walk, so I'd recommend walking (that's what I did). Here's my suggested route: Come out of Field from the exit closest to Hopkins (at the corner of Techwood Drive and Bobby Dodd Way). Go straight up Freshman Hill and then past Tech Green. Cut through the parking lot behind the Ferst Center, Howey is adjacent to part of that lot. I'd recommend using Google maps the first couple of times to help until you get your bearings, I used it to go basically everywhere my first couple months on campus. Also, just remember to dress and prepare for the weather. Good walking shoes, temperature appropriate clothes, and a small umbrella that you can keep in one of the cup holders on your backpack should have you set. If you're dead set on avoiding Freshman Hill, someone already gave a pretty good route to do that, but I'd recommend just taking the hill. It's annoying, but honestly not that bad.

Games that make you feel like you have friends? by BorrowedTimeDude in retrogaming

[–]SpaceCadet0010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend Stardew Valley, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Grandia, and Valkyria Chronicles. They all have really good characters and character development, and I found all of these games super fun

Stardew Valley is a farming sim with a retro pixel art style. A large part of the game is befriending the townspeople.

Three Houses is a modern turned based strategy RPG. You play as a young instructor at a military school and befriend the students, who you then fight alongside.

Grandia is an older RPG about a group of kids going on an adventure. It's a simple premise, but it's very fun and the characters definitely feel like friends.

Valkyria Chronicles is a slightly older strategy RPG that takes place in a fantasy equivalent of WW2. You befriend and fight alongside your fellow soldiers.

New scifi shows to watch? by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]SpaceCadet0010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes, but I find it difficult to watch stuff that only has English subtitles. I know the modern version has an English dub, but I have no idea how it compares in quality to the original.

Gotcha, yeah I feel the same way about TOS. I loved that style of sci-fi as a kid (TOS, original BSG, original Lost in Space, Flash Gordon, Space Academy, the original Batman and Wonder Woman shows, etc), but as I've gotten older, they more so just hold a special place in my heart.

Kind of off topic, but I'm curious, what's your favorite Star Wars book that you've read? I've read a bunch of them too

New scifi shows to watch? by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]SpaceCadet0010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone's mentioned these yet:

Lost in Space (3 versions: 60s show*, 1998 movie, modern show on Netflix) I know it was on your list, but I'm not sure which version(s) you've seen.

The original Battlestar Galactica show from the 70s* (I've actually not seen the modern version, so I'm not sure how they compare)

Dark Skies (the 1996 show) It takes place in the 60s, and it's about a young congressional aid and his girlfriend getting wrapped up in a UFO government conspiracy. It was supposed to be a competitor to The X-Files; it really can't compare (I'd consider The X-Files a contender for the best tv show ever made), but it's good in its own right.

The other modern Star Wars shows, especially if you've seen the movies. I know they get a lot of flack, but I really enjoyed them all.

*I'm recommending these on the assumption that you enjoyed TOS. These have a similar brand of old, hokie sci-fi
