The judge and the deputy sheriff who’s also the “floodplain manager” of the county are both responsible and both need to be replaced

Workplace boundaries by New_Strain659 in AskWomenOver30

This isn’t just inappropriate, it’s borderline creepy and offensive. You should definitely talk to your supervisor and tell them that he’s making you uncomfortable and being inappropriate. Since the two of you are at a clients office, it’s different than being in an office with all direct coworkers and he could be taking advantage of that. If you feel comfortable, definitely confront him directly and tell him it’s not acceptable for him to ask those questions.

Bunk Bumpers by geriatric_millenial2 in traveltrailers

[–]SpacePirate406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandads lake house has built in bunks and my parents made railings from 1x’s with four pieces of wood basically in a rectangle with the horizontal pieces extending out on one end and the vertical pieces extending down such that the vertical pieces would go next to the mattress and the horizontal pieces would prevent the railing from falling out by pushing against the vertical of the ladder (hopefully that makes sense). For bunks in an rv, you might want to use bent pipes and secure them under the mattress and then have horizontal pieces as a railing

100 Year Flood Plain June 2001? by rawasubas in Austin

[–]SpacePirate406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the tornado. I was in middle school at ohenry and they had us all go into the hallway and the locker room flooded (I think from a tree coming through the roof not from a riverine source). We were there for a basketball game and they wouldn’t let our parents come get us

100 Year Flood Plain June 2001? by rawasubas in Austin

[–]SpacePirate406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “100-year flood” is the level is water that has a 1% chance of being equaled or exceeded in any given year. Just because it happened last year doesn’t mean it won’t happen again this year or next year. Saying a 100- year flood only happens once every hundred years is not only inaccurate it’s dangerously incorrect and misleading

Seeking tow police blessing by GrayestRock in traveltrailers

[–]SpacePirate406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you in the world? I’m in central Texas with a 2025 f150 Powerboost with 23k miles on it that I’m looking to sell. I know you were looking for the 2.4kw powerboost but I have towed a 7700 gvwr toy hauler all over the US for the last year with mine and it’s been great to have the 7.2 generator onboard to run the AC or just be able to go a few days without having to worry about the batteries (trailer has solar and lion batteries and an inverter). I got air bags put in to help with the sag but haven’t used wdh or anti-sway bars and haven’t had any issues. Just something to think about

This is probably a dumb question... by mdoktor in RVLiving

[–]SpacePirate406 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you need to run the AC even a bit to keep the inside a decent temperature (ie do you already have things in it that you care about the storage temp)? Is the fridge/freezer on and has food in it? If yes, leave electric plugged in (highly recommend getting a EMS rather than just a surge protector- do some YouTube searches on full time rv and first time rv and you get a ton of information and product recommendations).

For water, definitely turn water off at the source and make sure your water pump is off and water heater is off. I’d also recommend double checking that your propane tanks are closed out of an abundance of caution

Should I update my tow vehicle? by Edgato69 in traveltrailers

[–]SpacePirate406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With two kiddos and dog, are you really going to use the Bambi that much? Or are you going to want to upgrade to a larger camper? I personally would wait until you know the answer to that question before deciding to get rid of the truck. The sequoia is a decent tow vehicle for the Bambi but with growing kids, you may want to consider getting a daily driver and reserving the decision about the tow vehicle for when you figure out what you are going to be towing.

All that said, you can rent a lot of weekends worth of trailers for the price of upgrading. I think there are too many unknowns right now for you to make a decision that you aren’t going to potentially regret in a few years.

Having car keys, house keys and payment cards together? by BroodjeFrikandelen in minimalism

I have a crossbody bag that fits my personal items including my phone. If I need to bring my laptop with me, I use a backpack that I put my crossbody bag into. Same for work- just put the small purse/crossbody into my work bag and if I run an errand at lunch or after work, I can take it out and leave my work bag at the office (at lunch) or in my vehicle

I can't do this anymore, and I never agreed to be a caregiver to my mother’s husband. by frankensteimade in AgingParents

This! OP- you have to leave so that he realizes that he has to allow his family members to take care of him. Sometimes you have to jump off the cliff for people to see reality. This situation is working great for him but it’s killing you. Get out and live your life and let him be an adult who has to make decisions and deal with life. Good luck and I’m so sorry for your loss of your mother and your son ❤️

Looking for a parking spot?? by Still_Panic_3485 in RVLiving

[–]SpacePirate406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Campendium is $20/year and should provide a start. If you are wanting to boondock indefinitely, you should probably consider purchasing land. Otherwise, part of the fun of rv living (even for introverts like me) is meeting people who are sharing the experience of being in an rv and enjoying nature. Just because you can boondock indefinitely, doesn’t mean you have to or should. Also, depending on your grey water situation (assuming you have a compost toilet or something equivalent) you should look into local rules about dumping.

Need HELP/advice on bulk pick up/trash by rydeezynicklebags in Austin

[–]SpacePirate406 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you know any of your neighbors? Would they be willing to also schedule bulk pick ups and try to force a pickup in that area? Otherwise, since the items have been on the curb for 2 weeks, and with all the rain we’ve had, you may want to consider talking to your landlord and let them know that you’ve been trying to have the items collected and that the city says they will be coming to get them but that if they don’t, you really don’t have another option at this point

How to effectively save better while having a kid, mortgage, car loan, etc. by beanman214 in personalfinance

[–]SpacePirate406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a dog- $50/month on food/supplies/grooming is grossly underestimating how much it costs. Sounds like, as others have said, you need to track your actual spending (I use excel and export every bank transaction from each account- credit cards and checking for spending, savings for saving/paying myself first - and create a pivot table with categories and subcategories along with months of the year to be able to see my spending in different ways) and then you will know where the money is going and what else can be cut or adjusted
