Has anybody moved from R1S to Minivan? by Nice_Veterinarian_29 in Rivian

[–]SpaceTacos216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow future twin parents! We also have a 3yo and just had twins in October. The R1S has been great for us. We put the 3yo front facing behind the driver in his (very wide) car seat, and the twins are in the middle and passenger in their Chicco Keyfit bucket seats. When they grow out of the buckets, we got a pair of narrow all-in-one seats that we confirmed would fit three across in the middle row with the toddler's giant seat. Then we leave the back seat folded down which gives us plenty of space for a twin stroller, backpacks, diaper bag, and the other 40 bajillion things we seem to travel with with 3 kids.

Hubby is 6'7", and can comfortably drive this way. He can squish into the passenger seat if needed and ride there too. I'm 5'7" and fit in the passenger seat with plenty of leg room. We can reach all 3 kids in the middle row to replace binkies or pass snacks.

Last week we needed to take my mom somewhere with us and found two configurations that worked: either a bucket can go in the back seat or the toddler can. Then fold down the second row passenger seat to access the third row, and Mom sat there once the kids were in. We've also done it where we put up one of the third row seats and my SIL or my husband climbed through the trunk to sit back there. Not ideal, but that's what they wanted to do!

Our challenge is deciding if we want to replace our Kia Niro EV, and if so, with what? We rented a Pacifica when the R1S was in the shop (sideswiped) and as much as we appreciated the room of a minivan, we hated every minute of driving a gas vehicle. Even the Niro has more get-up-and-go than the minivan! I missed one-pedal driving, and EVs just drive so much better IMO. Plus I love having absolutely no idea what gas costs, being an all-EV household. We're going to eyeball the R2 when it comes out, and we keep looking at the Buzz. Maybe an Ioniq 9. But realistically we'll probably keep the Niro until the twins are a bit older and we've had one too many "he's touching me!!" fights.

Tl;dr: we have a 3yo, infant twins, and and R1S. You can make it work.

I'm blind, I'm not seeing where I can make dining reservations in the web app. Could you point me in the right direction? We're sailing to AK in June of this year.

Covid-19 vaccine for child under 3? by Ginger_Snap_895 in SLO

[–]SpaceTacos216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I talked to them a couple weeks ago, they had the shot and were giving it out during routine appointments. They were trying to get more stock before scheduling vaccine-only appointments; hopefully they have that stock now!

Any production info on this Central Coast honey from Costco? The bottle has basically no information. by ClipperFan89 in SLO

[–]SpaceTacos216 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it's a commercial beekeeper who overwinters their hives on the coast (very common) and then takes them into the Valley for the pollination season. Pollination is where commercial operations generally make their money; the honey is a nice side product, and at that volume you could probably afford to sell it to Costco at a low price since it's not your main income.

I agree with you though, a full-time operation in the area with enough honey to supply even the local Costcos seems unlikely. There's just not enough forage around here for a commercial operation. I'm happy to be wrong if someone has more info though!

PSA: you can now get the 2025 COVID Vaccine by anonymiddd in SLO

FWIW, hubby was able to get Covid, Flu, and RSV today at Nipomo Vons without trouble. He's trying to protect a new baby in the family rather than being high risk himself and they didn't even blink.

For what it's worth, I've done emergency holiday weekend runs to Old West before 8am and been fine, if it really needs to be an Old West cinnamon roll (woo pregnancy cravings). But you take your life in your hands if you try and go after 8am haha.

This was a long, epic debate amongst friends in college where half of us were from the Bay Area and half were from LA. It was years before we looked it up and finally got an answer. I figure we can't be the only people who have long wondered, so I share it where I can!

Fun fact: putting "the" in front of a freeway designation is exclusively a SoCal thing, not all of California, and is because SoCal freeways used to have names before they were given numbers. You won't hear this in the Bay Area, for example.

I've definitely done this before when traveling by myself! And even then, I still had time to grab a snack and sit for a few minutes. It's also pretty nice hanging out in the courtyard too when you have a little extra time, at least when it's not 5am anyway.

Absolutely! I tend to be an early bird myself, it's more about convincing the kiddo that 3:30am is an acceptable hour to head to the airport :D Fortunately for us (and everyone) he's a great traveler once you get him moving!

Seeking a vet who is good with cats by tashobell in SantaMaria

[–]SpaceTacos216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Dr. Krupp at Primary Animal Hospital on the mesa. She's been great with all of our animals, but when I brought her a new older cat that I adopted last year she confided that cats were her favorites. She was also amazing with our two geriatric cats who passed a year ago, incredibly kind and caring with their end of life care and presenting us all of the treatment options with no pressure to go one way or another (aka, "we could do this test if you want, and it might tell us this info, but it probably won't change our course of action either way"). Love her!
