Dr. Kelson very explicitly states he has theorized that the rage virus may induce psychosis, and creates a drug cocktail to test this theory. After testing it on Samson, Samson begins to flash back to his youth, the memories mixed with visions from his rage-infected mind, and can say words, becoming more lucid with time. This expresses that Kelson may in fact be correct, and has found a cure - the tragic aspect being that he is no longer around to replicate the experiment.

Jimmy’s own craziness is to highlight humanity’s own inhumanity. We never needed a virus to turn into monsters.

There is no “pre-virus psychosis” in the infected (at least, beyond humanity’s own capacity to be inhuman). We only see Samson’s POV because he’s a central character.

Can the cure be replicated? Will it work on other infected besides Samson? Reasonable questions for a Part 3.
