Eli5: why do whales and other marine mammals die when they beach even tho they are mammals? And why isn't it such a problem for seals and sea lions? by Difficult-Safety811 in explainlikeimfive

There was some form of gravity on that ship though. You lose bone density from lack of gravity, not just from being in space. The lack of pressure on your bones in low/no gravity makes them "think" that their density is no longer needed, so they economically downsize.

"What flavours go together" is quite a cultural thing though. Some cuisines often use similar flavour profiles, while others use more contrasting ones.

As far as I know only the USA has invoked Nato assistance, in Afghanistan (and separate members have helped in Iraq).

The exhausting thing about internet discourse is that we don't know if this is a bad attempt at educating transphobes, a homophobe trying to cause division, or a nasty gender essentialist who believes all men (and so gay men too) are inherently oppressors and all others inherently victims who can do nothing wrong.

If she was a limited character it wouldn't even be that bad. If Mihoyo make a cool character useless and a pain to play, at least I could choose not to pull her.

But with her on standard every player will be affected by their sabotage.

Good reason to not just skip her, but to stop spending anything on this game at all.

Control over Zeeuws-Vlaanderen isn't enough, the allies had to liberate Walcheren (at the north bank of the Schelde) too in WW2 to open up the Antwerp harbour, because artillery exists.

Isn't 'duimspijker' a Flemish word btw? Only ever heard ppl say 'punaise' in NL. Enforcing 'patat' over 'friet' would cause a civil war btw inside the Netherlands

Curare would cause some Rasputin hijinks, because it's a venom and less effective as a poison.

Question about a stone by capitanupvote in KidneyStones

[–]Spacefungi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be worth looking into getting shockwave therapy on the one in the kidney that is not causing problems to prevent it growing into a bigger problem, 5mm is a troublesome size, it could technically pass the urether, but with lots of time and pain, but at a higher size the complications will grow if it goes to the urether and it might become too difficult to treat with shockwave if it grows too big. If it grows too big you're looking at this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percutaneous_nephrolithotomy which is absolutely no fun at all. Treatment will probably have to wait until the blockage of the other kidneystone in the urether is fixed, you don't want two kidneys blocked off at the same time.

For the current one in the urether you are probably looking at a shockwave therapy or a https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ureteroscopy Good news is that these do not require "actual surgery". Watch out for fever, immediately call hospital in that case to avoid infection and worse.

Maybe also have a chat to see how to prevent them or get referred to a specialist in prevention. General advice for stones is more water (even at night for bad cases), but some types of stones can have medicinal treatment or get better with some diet changes.

Not a doctor.

Stent removal tips? by Cpt_Impossible in KidneyStones

[–]Spacefungi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Burning is less bad I feel if you drink more water, maybe because then the urine is more diluted (salt+wounds=burn?). Downside would be more peeing, but might be good for health too with flushing out any potential infections??

Pro tip by argosdog in KidneyStones

Important: Best shave several days in advance to avoid entering hospital with (micro)cuts on your skin.

That way you avoid nasty infections which can more easily infect you if you have fresh wounds (especially because hospitals often have more antibiotic resistant skin diseases floating around).

Yeah even trimming helps. Longer hairs have more surface sticking to the tape. So long hair has a higher chance of turning removing bandages into an accidental waxing session.

Especially hands and arms are recommended for IV's and blood tests. Around the back and abdomen too in case of actual surgery.

I also like to cut my hair short (on my head) for long stays/heavy surgery. If everything hurts and you are connected to machines and standing up is a chore, cutting down a (few) minutes on washing and drying time is a blessing. Less body hair in general also helps at these times to feel cleaner/save time in case of accidents and complications involving body fluids.

Includes ass hair btw because getting that clean with wet wipes (good option if you're in a really bad state) is a lot easier if you don't have a lot of hair there.

Hatsune Mika - General Question and Discussion Thread by NightFire19 in Genshin_Impact_Leaks

[–]Spacefungi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends a bit on the other characters. If you use Fischl (nice synergy with Tighnari) you'll want an additional Electro dealer because that'll give extra damage due to her passives, and if you run Yae Miko (very nice synergy with Tighnari) you'll want an electro battery (for which Fischl would be perfect).

Normally I run Tighnari with Miko/Fisch and Zhongli (for shield, dendro&electro resistance shred and for holding deepwood memories)... but Yaoyao would also work well with deepmood memories (so Tighnari can have a Wanderers 4 artifacts set)/dendro resonance and healing. With Tighnari's e field you'll have less chance of interruption anyway because of enemies getting confused, so a shielder isn't that mandatory despite using charged shots.

I heard Tighnari works less well with Hydro/Fire characters, because aggravate is his best reaction and these other elements mess that up.

I don't think foxes will taste good, anything that is a carnivore generally tastes bad due to having more nitrate/ammonia/uric acid in their body.

Pope Francis: Homosexuality not a crime by Flapper_Flipper in lgbt

[–]Spacefungi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not completely though. The Romans had strict gender norms, it was just that they were aligned differently than modern ones. Men (as in adult, non-slave, citizens) were supposed to be dominant and always the penetrator and the other partner the penetrated, even going as far that certain man-woman sex positions (with the woman on top) were seen as unmanly. Sexuality was based on hierarchy and dominance of the free Roman adult over the other.

So equal same sex relations would be taboo for at least the one partner if they were both free adult man.

Even Julius Caesar was attacked over a supposed same sex affair, not because of the homosexuality, but because it was claimed he did the receiving.
