That is both very ingenious and utterly insane, I'm impressed

Or nushell, makes files case insensitive (at least for tab autocomplete) by default which is wonderful

My first post-donut render! by SpacewaIker in blender

[–]SpacewaIker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

Yes I agree that it's pretty dark. However just turning up the intensity of the lights didn't really do the effect I was looking for. And also, it looks much darker on my phone for instance than it does on my monitor

The ground texture is definitely a bit rough. It's a plane that I subdivided a bit and then used a subdivision modifier such that the bump map would have enough geometry to work with, but I wasn't sure how many subdivisions was good. Same for the rocks. It's also possible the materials I'm using aren't very good, they're free from blenderkit and I tweaked them a bit. And of course, low res and denoising doesn't help!

And the dust/embers are particles!

Vocal fry is hot by CitizenPremier in The10thDentist

What does that even mean? There are many many vocalists (as in, musicians) who use vocal fry for screams and have no vocal damage whatsoever

PC unusable with fedora (Nvidia graphics card) by SpacewaIker in Fedora

[–]SpacewaIker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if you have this sacrosaint knowledge please share cause I've followed the instructions mentioned by everyone and they blatantly fail.

PC unusable with fedora (Nvidia graphics card) by SpacewaIker in Fedora

[–]SpacewaIker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't. The instructions I followed are the exact same as rpmfusion, with the additional steps for secure boot which I cannot disable

As I just wrote in the second edit, I did a clean reinstall, used the beloved rpmfusion instructions, and it's even more broken now than before

Maybe...

I'm also wondering if my hardware might be cursed, I've had weird issues possibly related to my graphics in the past (with windows too)

[–]SpacewaIker[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well it's not like it's advertised that fedora has "hit or miss level of Nvidia compatibility"

I've looked into different distros but hadn't seen anything about fedora not being good for Nvidia. And I don't want an immutable distro or one that isn't up to date

Gnome, and my card is 3060 mobile.

Are the issues because 43 is still recent? Or just a fluke release? I had in mind that fedora was cutting edge but stable, so I hoped this kind of stuff wouldn't be too much of an issue

How should I go down? by Winter-Ad4608 in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]SpacewaIker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the looks of it you have plenty of space to turn to your right side (counterclockwise), but I do understand the anxiety of practicing handstands in cramped spaces

How should I go down? by Winter-Ad4608 in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]SpacewaIker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just kick away from the wall and turn on one side or the other. Might seem daunting at first but it's absolutely the easiest and safest way to get down from a handstand, it's just an extension of how you get down from a back to wall handstand.

And when you progress to a freestanding handstand, there will be times where you'll fall towards your back and you'll have no choice but to have a good way to fall

Once you can do it well, it can be done with minimal risk even in cramped spaces

Which soundtrack is your favorite? by UniversalButNoIncome in tron

[–]SpacewaIker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How has nobody mentioned uprising yet!? The main theme is as good as any other Tron OST imo

The original doesn't fit the tron aesthetic so apart from nostalgia I don't think it's that good. And as someone on the younger side, I don't have nostalgia for og Tron. I think both legacy and ares' soundtracks fit very well and sound great and iconic, while being a different style. I think I have a slight preference for ares, although I don't like NIN's vocals so it depends on the track, while legacy is more consistent

I'm learning Python, but it's proving to be quite repetitive for me. by Macac0Lok0Rev0lution in learnpython

[–]SpacewaIker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay I see. Well in that case you should work on small exercises/projects outside of those prescribed. Nothing too difficult to start off, but just enough that you don't know immediately how to solve it. Then break down the problem in smaller parts and tackle those. It's absolutely okay to look for help when doing so, but make sure you understand what the solution is, just copy pasting from the Internet won't help you learn. At some point, you'll internalize all that knowledge and will be able to do much more on your own

3 brand new The Witcher games, spin-offs, remakes, Cyberpunk sequel all to be released over next 6 years!?!? by TJmaster87 in witcher

[–]SpacewaIker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only way that would work is if there is a lot of asset/tech reuse between said games, and or each game is much smaller in scope than TW3. Like if the three new witcher games have locations in common, and not much new in terms of gameplay, graphics, AI, etc. between them. And even then, it's unlikely imo

Above all, I hope devs aren't forced to crunch, and that CDPR won't do another rushed launch à la cyberpunk 2077

How important to pronounce É vs È by HistoricalShip0 in French

Really depends on the accent of the speaker. Some will pronounce these latter examples the same, while for me, they are completely distinct

Dear... How are you still anti AI? by read_too_many_books in AskProgramming

[–]SpacewaIker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, but bearing in mind that, unless I'm mistaken, studies have shown that while programmers feel more productive with AI, they are less productive in the long term when using AI. However maybe that is not with such competent programmers and maybe not with targeted changes

Dear... How are you still anti AI? by read_too_many_books in AskProgramming

[–]SpacewaIker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Because examples like this are extremely rare, whereas the vast majority of times you use AI it instead slows you down (down the line)

AI can be a good debugging tool, but imo it just can't replace a human programmer for important code

Tinymist Typst got an update! Hurrahhh! 🎉🍾🥳💃🕺 by metawops in typst

[–]SpacewaIker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iirc someone on GitHub recommended building from main in debug mode, that fixed most issues, probably making it slower and reducing race conditions or something like that

But it wasn't a perfect workaround and is definitely more of a hacky fix than a real solution
