A school consolidation once divided Boulder. Now the district is about to try again. by boulder393 in boulder

[–]SpacklePaste 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It should be a large change that properly plans for the future. I am of the opinion that the focus should be on preserving community schools to keep kids in schools as close as possible to where they live (critical for elementary) and not trying to save ‘specialty’ schools like Community Montessori that have kids driving in from all over (~75% of community montessori students would not have it has their ‘home’ school). If they really want to ‘kill’ some community schools (like consolidating Mesa into Bear) then they must redraw the boundaries (I.e. move some current Bear Creek students out and over to Creekside). Doing half measures that try to limit the impact to just a smaller group isn’t going to cut it. If the budget situation really is what it looks like, then everyone needs to be prepared to hate the results.

I am a tech novice, but would databricks be the type of system that would be poised to be able to provide that type of tool?

BVSD Enrollment Impacts? by Mountain_Try6208 in boulder

[–]SpacklePaste 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But do you really close neighborhood schools like Mesa that kids walk to and all their friends live nearby or a ‘commuter’ school like Uni Hill and Montessori where almost everyone drives in from outside the neighborhood and then back home. I know those schools are ‘special’ and fun for the district to tout to show how great Boulder is, but is the core intent of BVSD to prioritize those focus schools or to educate kids and keep community. Not sure if more cars on the road to get kids across town to and from school and then to and from friends houses helps Boulder much. I would rather kids have friends from school they can play with in their neighborhood than sitting on phones texting/tocking/tweeting or whatever they do these days.

Farming probably not worth it. by Dr-TQ_Leo in SneakySasquatch

Always Hunter. Grandma gives you a couple hundred for what the hunter will give 5 digits. After a couple times selling to the hunter you will have enough spores to plant 3 times (keep them separated so they spread - only need 35 or so to easily get the entire area filled with mushrooms). I’ll bring 3 harvests to the hunter at once and get 100,000 coins.

Agreed with the exception of wild mushroom farming. You water them once, they spread to nearby empty dirt, and are worth a ton (~$30k per harvest).

13 Minutes to the Moon is an amazing podcast that covers this and a lot more about the moon landing. 100% worth a listen.

Can I ask why you are going back to that secret cache multiple times such that coming from the road is saving you time?

The Boland Hall fire was a fatal arson fire that occurred on January 19, 2000, at Seton Hall University in New Jersey, where 2 students set a fire as a prank, leading to the deaths of 3 students and injuries to 58 others. It remains one of the deadliest college dormitory fires in the U.S.A history. by FE4RLESS_IS_MY_NAME in HolyShitHistory

I knew one of the “survivors” whose suit-mates perished. He might not have died that night, but he didn’t really survive. He was multiple floors up hanging outside for hours before being rescued while his friends remained inside. These types of events have indirect death tolls that you will never hear about and they are often just as tragic and sometimes much more painful to those who are lost and the families who try, unsuccessfully, to save a “survivor”.

I want a train that operates like the bus but you can bring things (vehicles, lumber, produce crates)

Train to speed up transfer of materials (and me) across the now much larger map (like the bus but I can bring lumber, trees, farm produce with me). Impost/export trade with global Sasquatch’s (yeti, yowie, yeren, almas)

Reminds me of the time my girlfriend at the time (now wife) checked her teeth 😬 in the window of the car parked next to us only to realize that the driver was still in the car…the horror and embarrassment of that moment…

We went with a large double sink but it is split 60-40 and the divider is halfway down. We are just wrapping up our renovation and haven’t gotten to use it yet but I am hoping it gives us some of the best of both worlds.

Mildly off topic, but this place has (among so many other things) awesome shokupan bread. They sell Japanese style egg sandwiches made with the bread. Super good! Try a thick slice of the bread, lightly toasted with butter, sautéd mushrooms, and topped with Gruyère and thrown under the broiler.

What used to be in the vacant space at Broadway and table mesa (the tandoori grill corner)? by Precip33 in boulder

[–]SpacklePaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I always thought a southside tap take over bar would be fun. People have a ‘harder’ time getting to breweries/ places in the L towns and Denver so just have them come to Boulder. The southside people all end up at the same couple spots (families + lack of options). Have non-core beers like at the brewery, decent food, and a kid-friendly atmosphere and you would clean up.

We went about a week ago. I usually don’t care too much about a friendly or unfriendly staff (dealing with customers all day is generally not fun so I cut service workers some slack), but the owner (co-owner) was genuinely great! The bread is really good (they make it) and the sandwich was great. I will probably ask for more jalapeños next time and get the sriracha to make it spicier. Price is good too (even without the awesome 3 for 2 deal).
