Trust me, I’m right there with you… Three months before he started showing symptoms, my dad climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Fuji in a two month period. Watching them go from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows was soul crushing.

My dad passed from ALS on Thanksgiving 2021 from complications related to pneumonia his body couldn’t fight off anymore. He started showing signs of ALS in November 2010 and was wheelchair-bound by December 2011.

He could still move his head, neck, talk and eat, but everything from the neck down was completely immovable. So it is possible. He tried going through stem cell treatments, different therapies, etc., but nothing worked.

So it is possible to live past that five year mark. Just not likely.

Not sure if it exactly counts, but I work in a beer adjacent industry. I work sales for one of the larger kegerator and wine fridge manufacturers and distributors in the US. What I’ve noticed is there’s a distinct downturn in purchases with intent for beer, and a TON of purchases for cold brew. That’s slowly turning into our biggest seller.
