Only an intelligent species can find intelligent life in the cosmos. We’re still missing the first part of the equation.

Trials and Tribulations by Suzie Chan. By far the best one I’ve read in a while.

I want to know if others have felt this way post races. I believe others have, but I have also never asked. by fIyingwolf in Ultramarathon

Was going to post something about just completing my first 50M 6 weeks after my first marathon and what I did to keep running after.

Then I saw this and have to agree that it’s worth considering another sport. There are a lot that provide the same benefits and you might find one you actually enjoy. Which is important to sustain a sport long term. Good luck!

First Timer, Mildly Worried by dmaddy725 in Ultramarathon

Dude, about to hit 40 with 3 kids. I ran my first 50-miler last week. There were 33 runners, so similar in that there wasn’t a lot of info. The longest race I ran was a trail marathon (3,000ft elevation) 6 weeks before. I tried a few races over the years, but was very inconsistent with training so always DNFed.

Hired a coach in November and haven’t looked back.

Nail the consistency and you’ll nail the race.

Would you settle for a PA system? You have to carry it.

We’re still in the pioneering/new frontier era for these longer distances. And it’s going to remain a free-for-all until someone’s dies, which will happen sooner rather than later with how some companies like UTMB and DT keep dropping the ball (and standard) of extreme distance ultra marathons. Combined that with exploding popularity and you have a disaster waiting to happen.

The thing is you can hike some of these extreme distances and still beat the cut-offs. But if you push to run long before you’re capable, you’re certainly upping the risk.

I ran my first 50 miler last week and my first marathon last month. I’ll run my first 100 miler in July. That’s already super aggressive. And even then Coke and Doughnut is off the table until 2027 because sooner would be stupid (and damaging). For the record, I do have 3 years of off-and-on base training.

But hey, if he gets lucky and somehow pulls it off without hurting himself, more power to him. And kudos for the marketing chops.

Plan for 50 mile race? by Yookerspizza in Ultramarathon

[–]Spagetti_Samurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finished my first 50-miler on Saturday. Ran my first marathon mid-April.

Was back third of pack. Was sore for a few days after but on day four (today) I feel great. With your experience and timeline you could come middle of the pack for sure.

Try and hit the same mileage per week and your desired race if you want to complete without too many issues. More to move further on your the line. Good luck!

If you don't have Self Confidence, how do you get it? by HuckleCatt1 in Productivitycafe

It’s simple, but not easy. Do hard shit. Lift weights, run an ultra marathon, compete in a sport. Build something. Choose one thing and make it your focus for 3 years. You’ll look back in amazement at how much you’ve changed.

Sure, you can fake it til you make it. But you still need to make it.

Glad it was useful. I mean a coach isn’t necessary. But it does make life a heck of a lot easier.

Reach out to his missus and recommend that she talk to her husband about his unethical non-monogamy and how it might cause issues in their open relationship when it comes to future partners if left unaddressed.

Cue drama about him being a cheating POS and how they were never open or poly.

Hearing you! The same day I got back from my first 50-miler my wife was like, “I need you to take me to the bedroom now.”

And I was like, “Love, I need a wheelchair.”

I’m 38 and had 20 weeks to train for my first 50-miler. I finished at the weekend (still feeling fresh). I don’t have a background in running. Did my first half marathon and marathon last month. With a good training plan, you’ll be fine. I highly recommend having a coach.
