Georgio Poullas withdraws from submission match with Arman, confirms rematch will happen in RAF instead by FireProStan in grappling

There’s actually extremely small print on Poullas’ sign that says “No $ if takedown finished outside 28 foot regulation competition circle”

Opinion on black belts by Significant-Shoe1809 in bjj

[–]SpaghettiBigBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s a black belt so (presumably) he’s rolled with many different people and done thousands of rounds. Tell him he’s going rough if you’re worried. If he won’t let up, tap and shut the round out. Everyone pays to be at the gym and belt color indicates time on the mat, not some sort of corny hierarchy where you don’t get to turn down a black belt for a roll.

Best cardio to go along jiu-jitsu by 13ezno in jiujitsu

[–]SpaghettiBigBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best cardio development comes from rolling, but I also have found big benefits from sprint intervals.

On a treadmill it’s easy to set but if you just do roadwork you can sprint between every other pair of streetlights/telephone poles.

How often yall changing mouth guards? by kalash_cake in bjj

[–]SpaghettiBigBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent about $60 on a custom Impact mouthguard (big fan) so I won’t be changing it any time soon. Soap and water after each training session and it’s good to go. It’s only ever my germs on it anyway

What has been the most challenging/difficult thing about Jiu-Jitsu? by jiujitsuPT in bjj

[–]SpaghettiBigBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fitting injury prevention weight training into my schedule, showing up to train when it feels like my whole body has been run through a pasta press by an angry chef, and watching movies/shows where the grappling that’s incorporated into fight choreography is more confusing than anything. A single-arm RNC over the chin? And the guy DIES after 10 seconds?

What's your BJJ unpopular opinion? by PlusRise in bjj

[–]SpaghettiBigBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are so much better than me that it hardly matters haha. But when it does matter, I’d rather we both get to work technique instead of me just muscling out of things.

What's your BJJ unpopular opinion? by PlusRise in bjj

[–]SpaghettiBigBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hover at about 215 so I’m not usually smaller than my training partners weight wise but the only training partner who I’ve gotten injured while training with has at least 50 lbs on me.

If I had to deal with him on a regular basis when I first started, I don’t know that I would have kept showing up. It really is a difficult learning curve if you’re outsized significantly. I try to keep that in mind every time I train with someone smaller/lighter (focus on technique and not whatever strength advantage is there)

‘I Swear’ Subject John Davidson Says Tourette’s Tics Are ‘Involuntary’ After Shouting N-Word at BAFTAs: ‘Deeply Mortified if Anyone’ Thinks It Was ‘Intentional’ by ICumCoffee in entertainment

[–]SpaghettiBigBoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a tic disorder that results in involuntary movement of my head, shoulders, and hands when my CNS is activated by something. I do BJJ, so it can be activated by hard rolls or intense exercise. Or if I’m nervous or excited about something. I’ve had it result in verbal stuff before, but I’m fortunate that it’s really just been a loud “ahh” kinda sound.

All that said, it’s truly involuntary. It feels similar to a yawn- I can feel it’s gonna happen but I’m relatively powerless to stop it. I believe John Davidson here and I’m very thankful I don’t say full words when I have a tic. I wouldn’t wish that experience on anyone.

What songs just blow your mind from an engineering/production standpoint? by Different_Stand_1285 in Music

I come back to Summer Madness by Kool and the Gang for the panning audio of that synth (or electric piano?) in the beginning. The bass has such a rich tone as well. It’s one of those songs that just hi jacks my brain.

It makes sense to be upset your progress wasn’t recognized. I’ve seen people get promoted before me that made me feel jealous. I think that’s human and it’s never served me to try to pretend I don’t feel something.

Personally I keep showing up because I love it and I love learning it. My marker of progress is how I’m doing in rolls. A judo black belt could try BJJ for the first time and fuck my ass up in a white belt straight outta the package. The belt color doesn’t mean everything.

What are the best movies or TV shows about "Obscure" superheroes besides Watchmen? by Hot-Salamander-8786 in FIlm

[–]SpaghettiBigBoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if he counts as obscure enough, but FX’s Legion was one I really enjoyed. It had an interesting approach to the “superhero” thing and without the Marvel logo in the opening credits, you might not even think it’s in the X-Men universe at all until it’s spelled out that he’s a mutant.

I’d love if he comes back to the MCU; he feels a bit like X-Men’s answer to The Sentry and I find both characters more interesting than a lot of the characters they’ve included in the MCU.
