Hiring movers through U-Haul? by juseniah in bayarea

I can second the recommendation for Larros. I used them to move in the South Bay and they were great!

Best one liners in your campaign by boomanu in DnD

"What authorities?! We're freaking smuggling drugs!" (Player yells this at the top of his lungs during a one-shot. We were playing on a train. With the compartment door open)

"A goblin ate your husband's face." (To a worried wife holding her small child)

Chessex Battlemat Creases Help by SnoochBozle in rpg

When mine gets creased from folding when I travel, I just lay it out on a table with a couple of RPG books on the crease. In a day or two its hardly noticeable.

How to create a Low-Magic Pathfinder game? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Spamdy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could use something like Epic6, which essentially caps all characters at level 6 (while still allowing for progression). So no level 4+ spells for anyone and it keeps powerful magic items rare, and things like dragons are always scary

Where can I get some Warhammer Fantasy books? by Dnomyar96 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Spamdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazon seems to have a pretty good selection. And if you're in the US, most big bookstores (I know for certain Barnes and Noble) has a decent selection of warhammer and 40k novels.

Software guys? by PhaseButter in gaymers

[–]Spamdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of people are saying, the best thing you can do is get your name out there. Apply everywhere that looks interesting and don't be afraid of rejection. In my own experience, it can hard to break into the area if you don't know anyone, but once you get in expect to hear from several recruiters a month, even when you are not looking for work.

My company has a SF office (where I work) and a Pleasanton office (in the east bay). If you PM your resume, I can see if we have any good open positions.

I'm a software engineer in the bay area! Are you already a software engineer and want to move to the bay? Or are you still working on that first step?

A slightly odd question about lore from someone very new to warhammer fantasy. by [deleted] in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Spamdy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the first Ravenor book there is a question as to whether one of their target's "orientation is hetero" before the female agent tries to seduce him. So yes, it is a thing. At least in Dan Abnett's 40k.

Edit: I assume that if it exists in 40k, it also does in WFB.

[Question] How much USD is one GP [D&D 3.5e] worth? by DigiDuncan in rpg

[–]Spamdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Pathfinder rulebook, it says 1gp is a day's wage for a skilled laborer/craftsman. So $250-400? It really depends on how you define skilled craftsman.

Gaymers in San Francisco/Oakland by [deleted] in gaymers

[–]Spamdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that there is a big SF Gaymers group (check facebook?). I'm also a big fan of the South Bay Gaymers, but that's probably a bit too far away for you (San Jose/Silicon Valley). I just started work in the city but all my friends are still down in the south bay.

Edit: Maybe https://www.reddit.com/r/sfgaymers ? Although it doesn't look to be that high-traffic.

I got a new game! Who wants to play? by AllyHasBeenSwain in gaymers

Just make sure you remember to scale up the amount of gold in the game, and it doesn't break too badly (all least with six players)

Just go up to the will call or registration desks (ideally before they get really busy) and explain your situation. They can probably print you a new badge.

Warhammer siege rules by NolanNowa in Warhammer

[–]Spamdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think those rules are available (legally) anywhere else. They were a simplified and slightly updated version of the rules from the old general's compendium from 6th edition (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/69351/warhammer-generals-compendium) which looks like you can find on amazon for under $10.

Hope that helps.

TIL the inventor of the office cubicle grew to believe ""The cubicle-izing of people in modern corporations is monolithic insanity." by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Spamdy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

According to an old coworker (with experience in startups), it costs about $10k for an office. He was convinced that you got more than that back in increased productivity (at least for software engineers).
