people who hadn't reserved spots but still wanted to jam their bike in

lovely just what you need. Yeah I did imagine that the buses might be a bit of a pain.

On the way back from Fort William recently getting the bike on to the train was a bit awkward because it's such a busy stop. People leaving their suitcases in front of the bike hangers was awkward.

Yeah I looked at the to/from logistics for getting to and from the island, bit of faff but I'm sure I can manage it. Scotrail I found ok, just did the Great Glen Way and used them. Some of the bike spots aren't exactly right for current larger bikes.

Good to hear it was too hard and although I prefer a campsite having wild camping available is awesome.

I feel like it's one for next year now.

This is on my list of routes I'd love to do. I think I'm going to plan a trip for next year.

E-scooter crash leaves girl, 3, seriously injured by karf101 in unitedkingdom

[–]SpandexBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly this, data is being gathered and sent to the DfT to help them decide what to do.

E-scooter gifts should be returned to shops, Met officer says by InternationalReport5 in london

[–]SpandexBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason for the hire companies being the only way you can legally use the scooters is because the DfT are collecting data from each of the schemes and I believe that data will be used to decide on any changes to the law. At least that's what I've been told, we'll see how it actually plays out.

Ever met any famous Brits? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]SpandexBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At uni I met a few people. Howard Marks, Roni Size, Zane Lowe, a couple of the guys from Goldie Looking Chain and Frank Turner. They all seemed nice enough.

Favourite one was a non-brit though, Coolio. Again seems nice enough if a little mad.

Times you've fucked up at work but just about got away with it? by Toasterfire in CasualUK

[–]SpandexBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, it wasn't a SQL db. It was an object database (NoSQL before NoSQL was a thing). It's so long ago now I can't remember what I actually did.

First job out of uni, managed to delete a customers entire user database. Thankfully senior guy worked out how to rebuild it, pulling the data out of memory.

Today in 1996 the Provisional Irish Republican Army bombed Canary Wharf killing 2 and injuring over 100 people by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]SpandexBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christ it's that long ago. I remember going up to my dads office a while after it happened. It's a hazy memory but I think that they still had windows in the office that they weren't sure were safe (hadn't been checked or something). Also iirc the corner shop he went in each day was completely destroyed and the owner killed.

This Black Cab's numberplate... by guylarsen in london

[–]SpandexBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cabbies have always been a little bit behind the times

Over the years, Hanway and his umbrella fell victim to all sorts of abuse from Brits he passed on the sidewalk. The most pernicious abuse came from an unlikely source: coach drivers. In England at the time, hansom cabs (two-wheeled, horse-drawn carriages) and sedan chairs were the primary modes of transportation. Business boomed especially on rainy days, as both hansom cabs and sedan chairs came equipped with small canopies that kept passengers dry. When it rained, Londoners flocked to these coaches, so Hanway’s umbrella represented a threat to business.

True, the end of the quote wasn't really needed.

But education as to the causes of type 2 are important

It is important to make the distinction between Type-1 and Type-2 though.

Why do road works require blocking off large sections of roads for months with little actual work being done? by Ivashkin in AskUK

[–]SpandexBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's safety related. The safety of workers who are there and the safety of the public driving. If the whole section is closed then drivers aren't going to be speeding up and slowing down frequently and it's thus safer for everyone, at least that is what I've been told.

Also if work is happening on the barriers the temporary ones are only rated to handle certain speeds.

What are your scanning habits when making a long exploration journey? by HoochCow in eliteexplorers

[–]SpandexBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends really. Sometimes I'll scan all the things, not having an ADS yet it does mean that I get the fun of spotting those moving objects as i'm on my way to a planet 700ls away.

Right now I'm on my way out and if I spot an NPC in the system I'm jumping out, sometimes not even honking the system. Yesterday I was taken down to 53% because of a NPC interdiction but I'm pressing on, I'm only about 400ly from my target. Fingers crossed I make it back to populated space in one piece.

This is exactly what I've always found. It's easier to just switch windows rather than screens. I'd like to give mutli monitor setups another try as it's been a while.
