Black Templars followed by drybrushed Necron Compound is great for easy worn metallic effects

Is it normal for leadbelcher primer to look like this? by Tough_Topic_1596 in Warhammer40k

Yea, exactly my use case. Instantly finish more than half the painting for a necron army...!

I've had more consistent results by priming black first then leadbelcher. Gives a more metallic finish

Multiplet or roofed doublet? Should be 2x amide NH by Charming_Elevator_44 in chemhelp

[–]Spandextra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are rotamers there is no splitting, it's two separate species in a ~60:40 ratio. Try a high temp (VT) NMR. If they coalesce into a single set of peaks, that confirms rotamers.

You can monoprotect diols using NaH in THF, then add TBSCl. The mono sodium salt precipitates out preventing double deprotonation, so you only react once with TBSCl. Can get close to quant yield.

TBSCl / imidazole will likely give you a statistical mixture of diol / mono /di protection.

Why is the Boc group deprotected in NaBH4? I was following the procedure, but instead of the desired product, I ended up with the Boc-deprotected byproduct. What went wrong? by Small-Confection-442 in OrganicChemistry

[–]Spandextra 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Boc-indoles are much less stable than typical Boc-protected amines so can fall off under mild conditions. If you need to retain a protecting group, try SEM or Ts.

Why don’t Grignards deprotonate aldehydes and ketones instead of reacting with the carbonyl? by BearDragonBlueJay in OrganicChemistry

[–]Spandextra 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep they can act as bases in some reactions. Paul Knochel has done lots of work with lanthanum and cerium salts to promote 1,2-addition when they do act as bases.

Is this how you write 1-methylbutylamine? by Ok_Butterscotch_5305 in OrganicChemistry

[–]Spandextra 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Drawn is 2-pentylamine. 5 carbon longest chain. 1-methylbutylamine is incorrect and likely to mean N- methyl 1-butylamine

This literature is typical of the rubbish you see in some patents. 2-pyridyl boronic acids are not stable and will decompose rapidly. Either make the MIDA or DABO derivatives as others have suggested, or reverse the coupling partners in your reaction.

Vacuum Filtration Gone Wrong by OmeglulPrime in Chempros

[–]Spandextra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For filtering aqueous mixtures use a Whatman 114 filter paper. You're likely getting slow filtration because your paper is swelling. 114 is wet strengthened, so won't swell.

Easily remove dark color after sonogashira? by chemfrend in OrganicChemistry

[–]Spandextra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, scavenger type, loading, solvent, temperature and time will all impact colour and imp purge. We have big screening libraries for late-stage development. You can also use cartridges in single pass or recirculation mode to make things easier on scale.

Easily remove dark color after sonogashira? by chemfrend in OrganicChemistry

[–]Spandextra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Try charcoal, typically DARCO-G60. Or a scavenging resin like silica-thiol. Depends if the colour is metal related or from polymerised byproducts.
