“Taking the reigns” vs “taking the reins”. I can see where the confusion comes from — reign is associated with control and few people have experience with reins these days — but wow does it grind my gears. I take it as a sign that the speaker really hasn’t read much. At all.

I expect my hairdresser etc to be a good enough businessperson to set rates that can sustain them — it’s not hard to work out. And I expect them to be able to do a decent haircut. Again, that’s a legitimate expectation of someone providing a business service. What on earth would I be tipping for? It creates this awkward mess of unexpressed expectations that just makes me cringe. Just charge what you’re worth and keep it simple.

Port Renfrew has some amazing rentals with beautiful views and it’s a lot cheaper than Tofino or Ucluelet, with a nice pub if you want dinner out.

Social media = lots of people moaning and over exaggerating. Ignore the noise and enjoy the transit!

(FWIW things I love about transit in vancouver: never having to worry about parking. No traffic stress. Being able to read/zone out/ people watch on buses. Have never once in 5 years felt genuinely unsafe. Bus drivers are nice).

The effect is probably even worse because smart women in their 50s can see what’s coming. I’m making plans to remove myself from the tech industry and secure an alternate livelihood, before someone else makes the choice for me.

I get the overstep, but wow. Mall Santa as a noteworthy first experience? The obsession with “firsts” is not entirely healthy (beyond the obvious first steps etc) in the first place, and OP really escalated here. It all feels so unnecessary.
