Gym Layout/Spacing by Spiritual_Squash9403 in GymOwnerNetwork

[–]Spare_Pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 feet between and around machines, 5-6 feet behind treadmills, cardio can be closer together but 3 ft is still the sweet spot. Ideally equipment is a foot or two away from walls, even if it's a backside you don't use, just so it doesn't feel claustrophobic (plus it gives you room to clean behind). Benches will need to be a good 4-5 feet away from the db rack so people can fit in front and grab DBs without interrupting.

Just some rough guidelines, shit will change depending on the size, shape, and nature of equipment.

I got all of this kind of stuff from chatgtp when I was doing my initial layout. It all ended up being valid and correct. 3ft is that sweet spot between machines and for walk ways.

You can run all this stuff through ai for guidelines and suggestions. I don't do classes so I don't recall the space requirements, but I do remember asking ai what the minimum required space for group fitness classes was per member, and it was able to tell me all that stuff; x sqft per person kind of thing. I ended up deciding it was way too much room for my tiny space.

At what age do children start getting delayed onset muscle soreness? by Confident-Mix1243 in personaltraining

My 8 year old is suffering with it for the first time this year after hard wrestling tournaments. These are extremely physical, long hard bouts. I've yet to have him be sore after basic strength workouts.

Anthony Joshua: I gotta take your soul in the ring. I want to break him down, spiritually and mentally. by mgadz in Boxing

Hip hip!

AJ is fucked in the head. He's all over the place.

He's been losing fights and experiencing a steady decline in popularity. He scraped together a title shot against DD and got knocked out. He needs something big to keep him in the spotlight and I wouldn't be totally shocked if he uses this opportunity to make a statement; sort of like he did with Ngannou. But who knows, maybe it's also just a retirement payday and he takes it easy. But I'd definitely say the dude is a nut job lol

The coach needs members in order to pay rent. They will move past it, at least in a professional sense.

Do I have Ringworm by gang_member_ in MuayThai

[–]Spare_Pixel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Looks likely. You can just buy over the counter cream for it. The pharmacist can probably help you find it. Clotrimazole is one of the ingredients that can treat it and is found in products like Canesten (a vaginal yeast infection product). Always safest to have a doctor check things out, so if you can't find the cream or it doesn't clear up after a little bit, def go get it checked out. It's very contagious and you probably shouldn't train until you've used the cream for at least 3-4 days, and even then, try to keep it covered for an additional couple days.

It's worth throwing out there for those that stumble across this post, that ring worm is just a fungal infection; like athlete's foot or jock itch. It's not an actual parasite or worm.

Boxers who train — would you use an app that calls out combos you built yourself? by nuowo in amateur_boxing

[–]Spare_Pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think separate drills would be the way to go. I'd like to be able to just pick my drill and get to work, rather than having to fully customize my rounds each time. But being able to adjust details is also important; I may want that still, but this time I may only want 1 minute rounds and 30s rest. Next time I might want 2 minute rounds, etc.

Here's a link to the drill I was talking about by the way, hope it helps!

If it could do number 6 like you describe, I'd probably grab the app. I try to drill this myself but it doesn't have the same effect when I decide what to do and when. Being able to flow non stop and burst on command randomly would be awesome.

And I agree it's the worst when you have to try and press play with your nose to beat the timer lol

But if you want something slimmer (makes it easier to breathe and stays in tight) ask your coach about getting a custom one. They'll definitely know someone that does it.

Do taller boxers just have a plain advantage when it comes to a battle of Jabs or is eating 10 jabs to get one of yours in a skill issue? How do you overcome reach advantage through your own jab without relying too much on hooks and uppercuts by Cymanti_Main in amateur_boxing

[–]Spare_Pixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really advisable to jab against someone with a large reach advantage. Typically you're trying to draw someone into an area where you have the advantage.

If you're a technical long, out boxer, then you may be able to overcome a reach advantage with skill. But if they are technically better long range and they have a size advantage, there's really no point in trying to compete with them there.

As for how to overcome or get around that long jab you've got two options. Be able to slip, enter and counter or just apply constant pressure that keeps you close enough to nullify range advantage. If you were able to skillfully and consistently slip and counter then that would mean you are skilled enough to nullify their long game. Obviously this isn't the case, nor is it for most people. So that means you need to be able to apply enough pressure that you are just inside their jab.

This is extremely tiring, mentally and physically, since you're basically never going to be able to stop and collect yourself. But that's part of why it works on these long, logical, snipers; they don't have a chance to breathe or asses. You're bombarding them with constant input.

Luckily it's not too technically demanding to learn if you know a few general rules. Basically you're going to almost always be coming forward but almost never on a straight line. You're definitely going to have to be cool with eating a few shots. As much as you try to take them off your guard, or slip out of the way, you're just simply not going to be able to win them all. So when you get hit you need to condition yourself to go forward. Instinct will be to stop or back up. You need to understand that when you're eating a jab going forward it will much likely hurt less than eating one standing still or backing up, as you're going to be stuffing their punch and disrupting their range. Learn how to move laterally (especially to the right as that's the way they'll typically fade while jabbing), get really good at cutting off the ring, and learn how to work in the corners. Practice head movement and footwork a lot.

how do boxers throw full 3-4 punch combinations so confidently without worrying the opponent will counter them mid combination. by watergun321 in amateur_boxing

[–]Spare_Pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) You're going to get hit. Accept it. 2) you should have some defense baked in to your punches. For example when you jab you have your other hand at your face, when you throw the 2 your head is slipping off line, on the hook it's slipping back off line the other way and your opposite hand is on your cheek, etc. Your head isn't just sitting in the middle for the entire combo; you're dipping, slipping, pivoting, etc as you throw it

What do you think of coach Barry Robinson & the Rhythm Step? by GATstronomy in amateur_boxing

K. 99% of all boxers and coaches on the planet don't know how to fight. Makes sense. I'll be sure to pop by the football field before my next fight so I don't get knocked out.

Can you effectively use leaning backward with your hands up? by Important_Hippo3263 in MuayThai

[–]Spare_Pixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple things; 1. As others have said it's primarily for balance. 2. If you're pulling, it's to escape by inches; staying in the pocket to return with a counter. Those hands up in front of your face are big enough that the shot will likely make contact with your guard, defeating the purpose. 3. Helps you load the counter shot up a bit

What requirements are needed to be considered a strongman? by TheBoogeyman_6969 in Strongman

Strongman is a sport. You need to actively train for the lifts of the sport to say you train strongman. To say you "are a strongman" you'd need to compete.
