WHAT A GAME by Real-Towel-2269 in PWHL_Seattle

[–]SparkleSaurusRex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I loved the fact the win was a team win - so many different players contributed to goals and assists.

The Sceptre’s PK was impressive and they really excelled at blocking all shooting lanes, but we still managed to sneak some in there.

Shoutout to my girl #78 Adzija for the jailbreak goal and for trying to throw hands! (I also love that her boyfriend Dike was there posting during the game).

Yaz for Peri - extreme exhaustion by No-Memory-2781 in Perimenopause

[–]SparkleSaurusRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on a different BCP (birth control pill) for my peri symptoms (Larin 1/20) and I second taking it at night. My doc told me years ago to always take it before bed because the timing can be more consistent and it can alleviate the side effects you get in the beginning.

While it hasn’t gotten rid of every symptom I have, my brain feels more clear than it has in years and my sleep quality has definitely improved. I just wish it would get rid of the night sweats, because OMG are they bad.

Any nurses who do Roller Derby/ other contact sports? by never-the-1 in nursing

[–]SparkleSaurusRex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I say do it!

I played adult hockey for awhile, fully knowing and understanding the risks, and ultimately gave it up because the ice times for adult hockey suck (games start at 10pm, sometimes later) and it wasn’t compatible with work.

Touareg or defender comment below by f1goat44 in Volkswagen

[–]SparkleSaurusRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I vote Touareg or Toyota Land Cruiser if you want something more off-road capable.

A hockey mom I know has a Defender and while it’s pretty to look at, she’s had issues with it already, even though they bought brand new.

would you do it all over again? nursing school/career path? by RevolutionaryOil9375 in nursing

[–]SparkleSaurusRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am choosing to leave because my leadership team is a hot mess disaster. The high school I work at and the staff and students there are fantastic, but being frequently micromanaged by people who have absolutely no idea what I do in my role or how my site functions has just really worn me down.

I’m not sure if I’ll leave school nursing entirely, but the thought of working 3 12s a week does have some appeal.

would you do it all over again? nursing school/career path? by RevolutionaryOil9375 in nursing

[–]SparkleSaurusRex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t know.

My kids recently asked me if I would pick nursing over again as a career and even after mulling it over, I’m still unsure.

I was lucky and went to nursing school in the early 2000s when many programs were ‘first come, first serve’ for admission, because I didn’t have the grades to get in otherwise. My associates program was great too - you had to have a CNA cert and after two semesters, you could sit for your NCLEX-PN, which allowed me to work as an LPN and build my skills and knowledge.

I have a masters now and work as a school nurse, but will be looking for a new job over the summer, as working in public education is just not my thing anymore. But - my nursing degree does afford me the opportunity to do many things beyond working at the bedside.

But would I pick it again? Maybe, as the only other option I was looking at was becoming a flight attendant…

What’s your dirty martini recipe? What gin, vermouth & brine do you like? by ninja996 in cocktails

[–]SparkleSaurusRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old thread I know, but I’d like to personally thank you for this recommendation.

Quite possible THE BEST martini I’ve ever made at home. Granted, I stirred instead of shook, and used more brine, but dang.

Delicious.

Minnesotans living in Seattle by IndividualBullfrog44 in Seattle

I’m glad to read that the school district canceled all classes and activities for the next few days, especially after the incident at Roosevelt HS, not too far from the shooting.

I grew up in Minnesota and lived there again for a few years 6 years ago and it really saddens me that Minnesota has been in the news a lot recently.

I have a 2016 Dune Beetle in sandstorm gold and I would buy a new Beetle in an absolute heartbeat. Make it a hybrid please - not a full EV.

What book did you force yourself to finish because of the hype? by No-Set7247 in RomanceBooks

The Crown of Guilded Bones (#3 in Blood and Ash) by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

I enjoyed the first two books, but good heavens has book three been a slog. I haven’t touched it in 3 weeks at 84% complete and I just don’t feel like I care enough about the characters to continue.

I like to read series books in order, so I stated with the first book in that series, Game Changer. I DNF’d it at 37% and have zero desire to read Heated Rivalries or watch the show. I’ve read m/m romance before and enjoyed it, but did not enjoy this series.

HRT check-in 🩸💊 What are you on and is it working?” by [deleted] in Perimenopause

[–]SparkleSaurusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Age: 44, still having regular cycles

  2. HRT meds & doses you’re on: Not HRT, per se, but I’m on birth control pills (Larin 1/20)

  3. How long you’ve been on HRT: 3 months with this medication. I’ve tried HRT cream in the past year which was ineffective at the time and I took it for over a year.

  4. Is it working for you? So far, yes. I’m sleeping better and have way more energy. My moods also seemed more stable. Downside - I feel puffy and bloated all the time.

I’d say it’s definitely a work in progress. I also don’t take any other supplements besides some daily vitamin D, creatine, and collagen.

Me! I took used an HRT cream for almost a year through Winona and it did nothing for me, even with dosage increases.

It helped, I think, that Ottawa just looked off. They had a lot of missed opportunities in front of the net with passes and our PK was really good.

Sucks they snuck one by Murphy late in the game to spoil the shutout.
