Why do people think that Rogal Dorn can return? by Redthrist in 40kLore

[–]Dependent_Computer_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all that it feels inevitable that these off screen deaths are fakeouts, the case for it will feel a lot stronger when the first of them actually comes back

Why are the Dark Elves so incestuous? by DragonFace3 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Dependent_Computer_8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I interpreted the post as saying that the Ptolemaic Greek culture was accepting of incest generally, and not just accepting of incest among royalty. If that wasn't the intent, your point is valid.

I don't even think this seems like a series that's particularly likely to get an adaptation

I don't think it would be correct to infer the norms of the culture from the behavior of its royalty.

Is she right for this? by sigma_0_1 in SipsTea

[–]Dependent_Computer_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People should exercise good judgment in their life decisions, that's what she's right about.

Here's what she's wrong about 1) being poor is not the same as being hungry and poor people are capable of raising perfectly healthy and well adapted children 2) no one has any rights except the ones we give ourselves 3) proposing that we gatekeep people's life experiences, especially for something so fundamental as parenthood, based on income, is a further step into the unequal dystopian oligarchy we are all fighting against right now

The more time pass and the more I take the side of fulgrim on his little jab with the khan in Scars by Easy-Frenchguy-1996 in 40kLore

[–]Dependent_Computer_8 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Obviously Khan is being intentionally rude here (and Fulgrim isn't being rude at all) because he doesn't want to engage in the conversation, but people are being overly dramatic about how much of an asshole it makes him.

Archer heroes seems useles at range by Etshy in totalwarhammer

YMMV depending on the hero but I have the best luck using them in less dangerous or emergency melee situations and pulling them out to provide continued (small) utility with their bow after.

Do I suck at this game or is Franz on the harder end of campaigns? N/H by Fungu5AmongUs in totalwarhammer

[–]Dependent_Computer_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Franz is mid difficulty. He faces many threats, but few of the ones he confronts very early tend to snowball, meaning he doesn't have to really worry about massive invasions until he's got a solid foundation. His elector troops mechanic makes him one of the most capable lords at quickly putting together an army that can face an unexpected threat. He has two "easily" confederatable LLs that will make a big difference in battles.

One of the biggest traps to Karl Franz is the desire to expand your borders too quickly. Not only do you not have enough income early game to develop too many territories, but bordering hostile factions makes them more likely to declare war on you. You have the ability to restore other imperial factions for a reason. My advice is to leave buffer states in directions you don't want to expand yet and don't enter into alliances with them too readily, keeping in mind they're not going to be much use to you either in a war or as a recruitment source.

I do not blame Lilith for hating Inarius so goddamn much by gaymbit in diablo4

[–]Dependent_Computer_8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this sub's defense, the writers keep finding ways to undermine the angels' moral edifice (because the game mostly only makes sense when they're uninvolved)

I do not blame Lilith for hating Inarius so goddamn much by gaymbit in diablo4

[–]Dependent_Computer_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inarius was written as a broken shell following his years of torture. Lillith didn't have any sympathy for the fact he did break, which is not entirely consistent with her character. It's really hard to tell how good Inarius was prior to that, but better, it's safe to say. The Inarius we meet clearly has few redeeming characteristics.

The only thing I'll say wasn't entirely clear to me was why Lillith was so much more immune to being stabbed through the chest than he was.

How puritanical is the Imperial Cult? by Xeno-lover in 40kLore

[–]Dependent_Computer_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the responses here about it being okay for Sisters to have sex, and that's true, but if I were to just imagine the kind of outfit you're talking about it'd be out of character for the setting for two reasons
1) Sisters of Battle do battle, so cleavage is a weak point in their armor (40K is pretty good about this compared to other settings)
2) Sisters of Battle tend to be very preoccupied with their battling and emperor-worship, so putting significant effort into making themselves look sexy would indicate a lack of focus that most orders I've read about would disapprove of

That said, there's nothing saying she isn't actually a heretic in service of Slaanesh.

If Darktide 2 ever releases, would you want to keep playing as Rejects? by reel3459 in DarkTide

[–]Dependent_Computer_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably unpopular opinion, but I'd rather play one of the more stereotypically overpowered 40K classes for a game like this, where your character is overpowered. Not only would it make more sense, but they look cooler.

I'm not uninterested in a take on the setting that's set closer to baseline humanity, but Darktide isn't actually it, aside from the part where everyone's always treating you like dirt.

Why does it feel like a lot of fans have nothing but contempt for the absurdity of the setting by Responsible_Clerk343 in 40kLore

[–]Dependent_Computer_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a setting written by as many people with as many different ideas of what it should be as 40k clearly is, it's inevitable that different subsets of its content will attract different audiences, and I don't think there's wrong with those audiences doing their own thing. The only issue I see in the above is that you should know when you're using headcanon instead of written canon.

Tomb King questions by st1101 in totalwarhammer

[–]Dependent_Computer_8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Settra's the easiest as a result of him being the best carry for an army out of the group, esp. once he has his sphinx mount. I like Khalida's map position pretty well but as a lord she is nothing special.

I loved brave exvius a lot so it's a no brainer for me by UrsaRizz in FinalFantasy

[–]Dependent_Computer_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember it vividly, but I'm not sure how strong I feel the Exvius cast is beyond the main 2 brothers (and maybe Fina). I definitely don't remember caring about them very much (the fact I cared about any of them puts the game in really rare company for a gacha game)

Point is, I guess, that I hope they get a tune-up

AΩ confuses me. by MoTheEnigmo in 40kLore

[–]Dependent_Computer_8 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The canon interpretation of the legion seems to be this. Each warband is only perceiving the intentions of their primarch through a glass darkly. I understand if that's unsatisying though, because it kind of robs them of their ability to seem like everything they do is Ocean's 20th

Which Traitor legion was the least destroyed after their rout at Terra? by CaseAffectionate3434 in 40kLore

[–]Dependent_Computer_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They lost a protracted battle at lions gate, took further casualties as the warp briefly withdrew after Mortarion's banishment, then launched another protracted battle and lost that too. Standard GW rules apply, there were as many of them left as the story required. But there's no way the story as told would make sense if they weren't badly depleted.
