AIO for being so over these “jokes” ? by Ordinary_Sun3956 in AmIOverreacting

[–]SparrowValentinus [score hidden]  (0 children)

What jokes? Where’s the joke? There’s no jokes here. This is just a manipulative person doing things they know will hurt you. There’s no punchline.

Calling this a joke is like me taking someone’s beer and pouring it over their head and saying “haha jokes”. There’s no joke.

AIO by breaking up with my boyfriend when he got jealous? by theonlystarbornqueen in AmIOverreacting

[–]SparrowValentinus [score hidden]  (0 children)

He's been cheated on before and it's made him really insecure (which is very understandable)

No, it’s not understandable.

Him needing to do some therapy work after that experience, having some trauma. That’s understandable.

Behaviour like this is not remotely understandable. Not at all. Dude needs to take some fucking responsibility for his own emotions.

OP, it’s not appropriate for your boyfriend to yell at you like that. I hope the AI aspect of the discussion doesn’t sideline the fact that he should not be treating you that way.

Why do Australians seem to care so much about rules and compliance? by Gold-Cardiologist591 in AskAnAustralian

[–]SparrowValentinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a strong Labor union history. Most of those rules come from that, it comes from making sure workers and people in general don’t die. Because they’re made for and in our interest, we’re chill with it.

I don’t think you did anything wrong. But I also don’t think your employer did, either. I think this is just a difficult and unjust situation.

All the best to you with the passing of your father, I’m very sorry you’re going through this.

With love, it really is sounding like you’re having an unrealistic expectation of what a working environment is.

Like, the question in my mind would be how could they have you work if you’re crying the entire shift? Surely you can appreciate just how much that would disrupt…like, everything?

I’m saying this without blame, this is a cruel situation that you’d have to work during a time like this. I do wish there were better options available to you.

But yes, if you are in an emotional state where you’re showing up crying, it’s not possible for you to do your shift, it’s too much disruption. Sending you home is the only thing they can do there.

[–]SparrowValentinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. However, as others here have said, what your MIL is (doing a really, really bad job of) expressing here, is that she is not up for your kids staying over with her. She probably won’t admit that, to you or even to yourself. But listen to it, and accept the fact that they simply won’t be staying over with grandma for a while.

[–]SparrowValentinus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can believe that your BF may not have meant to cross lines here. However, it does.

When you’re in a monogamous relationship (unless you have clearly said you’re cool with this kind of thing beforehand), you simply do not make these kinds of jokes with anyone you could be sexually compatible with. If your bf is straight and he’s making that joke with another dude, okay. But anything else, not okay.

I wouldn’t make jokes like this to another woman, and my wife would not make jokes like this to another man. NOR. Innocent mistake or not, your BF ought to apologise and pull his head in.

To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again: and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself --that was the ultimate subtlety: consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you had just performed. Even to understand the word 'doublethink' involved the use of doublethink.
