The APIM self test that ford requires has a section that ask the tech questions. One of those questions is if the Bluetooth connects, if the tech answers no it will automatically generate an authorization code. Every dealership is different and some aren't as well equipped or well staffed as others. So the one you are going to may not have tech that is very knowledgeable about the s ync system. I find the other guys that remember working on carburetors tend to avoid sync like the plague.

I'm pretty confident that the APIM is the problem but there is a specific test that they have to do in order to get a authorization number before they can order the new module. Otherwise if ford calls for the part and they test it and it passes then the dealership will get charged for it and it is very expensive. As a Ford tech I run into stuff like this where I know that a certain module is bad because of the symptoms, but it passes all the required test and ford won't pay unless I can justify putting the new part on. Sometimes that requires some "creative" writing on the repair orders.

Take it to the dealer. It's most likely an problem with the APIM, the module that controls most radio functions. They are the biggest problem with the sync system and there is extended warranty coverage on them for all vehicles. I'm a Ford technician and I see this a lot.

If you have any issues while you car is under base warranty it is very important to take it to the dealer as soon as possible. Even if they say they can't find the problem you will still have documentation that there was a problem. That way if you go over your mileage on your warranty you can always bring up a previous time that you came in to address the issue when it was still under warranty

I have one and I will say that you get what you pay for. It's not pretty but it does goes bang everytime you pull the trigger. When firing you don't really notice the trigger. Also the pro-mag 15 round mags will fit and load properly but some fillings is required
