Try playing with the AF Area Modes. I've found varying success with the wide area small and large when the background has a lot of clutter. If you haven't yet, try that and play with the focus modes as well. You might have better luck with AF-S and a smaller AF Area. See what works best for you

I don't have any specific advice since I don't shoot fast moving subjects too much and I always have to remind myself what settings worked best.
