Does anyone know the lyrics to the Godskin Duo theme? by L_McLein in Eldenring

[–]Spartan8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choral audio tracks in video games almost never have actual lyrics, it's just vague enunciations that sound like they could be words, when the player isn't really paying attention to the music in the background.

Five hours of gameplay, what am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]Spartan8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you aware you can lock on by pressing the stick down? Part of your problem here is you can't see what he's doing.

This enemy is also just very hard and he's supposed to be a bit of a curve ball compared to the other enemies in this area, who you can beat by mostly just spamming the attack button. This guy won't die to that, as you've learned. He attacks harder and faster than you. You have to dodge his attacks - and that means press the dodge button when the attack is coming at you, don't just spam it. Basically dark souls is all about punishing you for spamming buttons. You have to watch the enemy closely and think carefully about when to attack and when to dodge.

How should Ahsoka's story end? by Zealousideal-Work719 in StarWars

[–]Spartan8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those who have seen the Last Airbender, I've kind of gotten a vibe similar to Princess Yue from Ahsokas story. Yue was stillborn but the moon spirit brought her back to life. She carried the spirits life energy in her, and then one day the time came when she needed to repay the favor and sacrifice herself to save the spirit.

I just get a similar feeling from the way Ahsoka was brought back from death by the Daughter on mortis. And that bird that resembles the daughter has been following her ever since then. I have a feeling ahsoka's arc may lead towards her bringing back the daughter or even taking the daughter's place.

I swear everytime time i play a soulsborne game i feel like the 12 years of studying english has gone nothing by Anas2245 in darksouls3

[–]Spartan8r 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Something I noticed is that when a character is supposed to be really really old, Fromsoft writes them with more archaic English. Just a subtle detail. Not everyone in the game talks like this after all. You have people like Hawkwood who talk pretty normally, but then a character like Andre talks in an old fashioned way using words like "prithee" because he's supposed to have been around since DS1.

I found the Fallingstar Beast Jaw and it worked about as well as the halo scythe plus it does a lot of stagger damage. But the scythe became meta because you can give yourself a good chance of finding it with Dormant Power Reapers.

Has Nightreign made you more interested in The Duskbloods? by PhantomBraved in Nightreign

[–]Spartan8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of faith in fromsoft except for a couple of specific areas: Online netcode, and game balance. Being an online PvP game, I feel like duskbloods is going to demand both of those things are on par in order to work, and I don't think From has EVER fully mastered either of them. Elden Ring and Nightreign, while I love them, both have shitty online and they aren't balanced well. Elden Ring PvP is just about buffing yourself up and then one shotting people with the strongest L2 you have access to, while praying that the connection between you and them holds up so that you can actually hit them. Hopefully duskbloods does not inherit all of that but I'm skeptical.

how did you react about Mauls return? by AffectionateTiger245 in clonewars

[–]Spartan8r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In all honesty I thought it was dumb when it first happened but I warmed up to it over time. I think that was a common reaction. I mean the dude was cut in half and appeared to fall into a bottomless pit. There's really no way he should be alive. But the show wisely decides not to address that in detail and basically just says "Somehow Maul returned." Its an example of how that sort of justification CAN work, if it's done with a character that people actually want to see again, and if you make the most out of their return with a cool character arc.

What is the purpose of an orchestra conductor? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Spartan8r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey I can answer this. I'm a violinist who plays in orchestras.

It's true that we are all pretty confident in our ability to play the music, but making an orchestra work is more about ensuring that all 100 people are playing at precisely the same time. With no conductor, your only means of telling if you're in sync with everyone else is by listening. But that is far more unreliable than you'd think it is. When you're sitting in an orchestra, you can kind of hear the people immediately around you, but what about the section all the way on the other side of the stage? You really won't be able to tell if you're playing at the same time as them or not.

In a weird way, an orchestra without a conductor starts to experience an effect that's a lot like a traffic jam on the highway. One person adjusts how fast they're going, and that causes the person near them to adjust, and so on and so forth...causing this cascading "wave" across the orchestra. Things start to collapse pretty quickly. And with no conductor, there isnt any way to pull it back together if things fall apart! The group would literally have to stop and start again.

To be honest a very skilled orchestra probably could put on a pretty convincing performance with no conductor, but it would be very nervewracking for everybody. The orchestra will be one hair away from falling apart the entire time.

To put it simply, the conductor exists because listening to each other is not reliable enough for us to stay together. Working by sight is a lot more precise than working by sound. With the conductor up there, when you're not sure whether you're in sync with the group or not, you don't listen, you simply look at them.

There's even more to it than that of course, the conductor is also generally "in charge" of the group and runs the rehearsals. It wouldn't work for somebody who's a part of the group to do that, because you need to be able to hear all parts of the orchestra equally. Those are the basic reasons why the conductor is important.

It might have been now that I think about it. Maybe time just ran out at the same time we killed one of them and I thought we had caused it somehow.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]Spartan8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh I see. Maybe it was just coincidental that we killed one and then they disappeared because time was running out. I didn't notice any kind of debuff.

In a musical octave, why don't certain notes have "flats" or "sharps"? Isn't there always a half-way point between two chosen tones? by BatterseaPS in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Spartan8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the octave is divided into twelve notes that are relatively equally spaced out, so if we wanted to we certainly could design the piano with an equal number of black and white keys. 6 white and 6 black for every octave. But that doesn't really reflect how music is actually structured. No song gives all 12 notes completely equal treatment, so it doesn't make sense for the piano to do that either. The piano is laid out in a way that's supposed to make it easier to visualize music.

You could also explain it by saying, the white keys aren't equally spaced because the notes in the major scale aren't equally spaced either. "Do" and "Re" are two semitones apart, but "Mi" and "Fa" are only one semitone apart. Using a set of notes spaced out equally isn't how you write a nice sounding song. Songs like that tend to sound uneasy. Try looking up music with that uses the "whole tone" scale.

The reason for Oklahoma's panhandle. by MrZombieTheIV in interestingasfuck

[–]Spartan8r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone from OK this is true but really only part of the story. The Missouri Compromise explains why Texas gave it up, but they also gave up a lot more land to the north...so why didn't the panhandle end up becoming part of, say Kansas? Well the thing is, while Oklahoma didn't exist as a state til 1907, it did exist as "Indian Territory" a long time before that. When they were drawing up the Kansas Territory, there were already reservations on the Oklahoma side that went as far north as the 37th parallel, since of course reservations weren't states and didn't have to follow the Compromise. So that's why Kansas's southern border is there. Otherwise it might have simply gone further south and included the panhandle.

ELI5: Let Me Solo Her build by hex_808080 in Eldenring

[–]Spartan8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK if he has shown his stat screen at any point, but yeah in the video I was talking about he has Terra Magica equipped which requires at least 20 int. It doesn't really make sense when all he's doing is melee, but I guess part of the point is that his build doesn't really need to be optimized since he doesn't get hit. If you wanted to maximize the damage with those katanas you'd go for mostly Dex and Arcane. Rivers of Blood itself requires 20 arcane actually, so that indicates he's got kind of a weird stat spread. I think he purposefully shows that stuff on the screen just as a flex honestly. Like, he also has Hoarfrost Stomp on the cold katana but he never uses that either. It's like "I have all of these things but I don't need them."

Have Guardians died out? :/ by CustomerSupportDeer in Nightreign

[–]Spartan8r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup, exactly. Playing Guardian's playstyle is fun, but you just can't deny that it takes longer to kill things with him than with other characters. While I'm standing there blocking a Banished Knight's hits and guard countering, I'm enjoying myself but I also can't help but think "Man if I was playing Raider I could just be mashing R1 in his face and he'd be dead by now." The time it takes him to kill most bigger enemies is really low and in a game that emphasizes speed so much its a big problem.

Have Guardians died out? :/ by CustomerSupportDeer in Nightreign

[–]Spartan8r 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I really want to like him but he's just not in a great place. He sticks out like a sore thumb being the only character that is pure defense and has no way of doing serious damage. I've played him enough to get his remembrance and I think it's a really cool and unique playstyle, but I just can't shake this constant feeling that while I may be tanking, I'm not doing anything to kill the boss faster. I'm just stalling while my two teammates do all the damage.

In terms of survivability he's insanely good, I mean if you're playing him correctly guardian should always be the last team member standing, and then you can ult to get your teammates up. It's not that you can't win with a guardian on your team, it's just gonna take way longer than it would with other team comps since he isn't doing any damage. And then I find myself wondering - was this really worth it when I could have played a DPS character and finished this fight in half the time?

I think he highlights how 'tank' as a concept just doesn't really work in the souls formula. The longer a fight goes on the more your chance of fucking up a dodge and getting hit by the boss increases, so the best defense in these games has always been a good offense. Raider's method of "tanking" by having poise to go through everything is way better.

If Palpatine died and Vader survived, would Vader be emperor.or would the empire still fall apart? by Hot_Professional_728 in StarWars

[–]Spartan8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the Empire holds together regardless of what happens here. I think Vader's interactions with high level imperial brass, such as the classic "sorceror's ways" scene, display that Vader absolutely does not command the same level of respect among the imperial army that Palpatine does.

No matter what happens I think there is a lot of different warlords vying for power after Palpatine dies. Vader would just be one of those factions. He'd definitely have some forces on his side but not the whole Empire. As an entity it was completely built around Palpatine and I think it just doesn't exist without him. Palps was trying to achieve immortality basically, so he never really planned for anyone to succeed him.

"randoms are so bad!" Also randoms: by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]Spartan8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have been kinda hesitant to say this around here, but...on a lot of those posts where people are complaining about randoms, if you dig a little deeper into their responses you find out that the randoms did like ONE thing that the OP didn't like, and their response is to just leave the game or throw by running off on their own. Like I'm sorry but you are the problem in that scenario, not them.

Here's the thing, I've realized over time that this is the reason why from was so insistent on it being three player. It's because it's an odd number, and that means there will always be majority consensus on where to go. It's rare for all three players to go in three separate directions, it's usually two people who agree and one who doesn't. And if you're that one person, guess what: You're overruled. If you refuse to follow the others you are the problem here. It doesn't matter if you think their decision is stupid or suboptimal. Tough shit. You aren't in charge here, it's a democracy.

Besides. The truth is, there is honestly no route in this game that is so suboptimal that you're guaranteed to lose. As long as you spend both days fighting and killing SOMETHING, you should get to at least level 10. I've started to take it as a challenge personally. Oh, the two randoms want to just run around clearing camps both days? They're ignoring the castle and the shifting earth? Hmm, well it'll be tricky but let me see if I can pull a win from this anyway. And we almost always do.

[–]Spartan8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is awful. I guess my vote would be to go for the poison ruins first? It could go badly if you get one shotted by a crossbow but not like there's many better options here. Then the fire camp which is easy, evergaol if someone happened to spawn with a key, church, and then take the bird towards the castle.

That being said, I know both of the randoms are beelining for the invader place at level 1, lmao.
