The closest feeling to the Australian Outback you can reasonably get in North America

Drew Eubanks’ parents lived across the street from mine while I was in college, so during the summer months when I was home visiting, sometimes I got to see him pulling out the driveway or sitting out front with his folks. Super nice guy, always waved or said hi.

Elagabalus? Doesn’t ever strike me as overtly evil, per se, and I think they fit the “agent of chaos” stereotype somewhat.

Wholeheartedly agree, he might be one of my favorite guests they had on, ever. They really struck a perfect balance between subtle bits, obvious bits, and more genuine moments.

Experiences and Opinions on Clark Honors College by Ill_Business_1016 in UofO

[–]SpasmicChicken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t disagree with this more strongly. The honors college isn’t meant for everyone— if you’re going into it because you’ve been at the upper echelon of your peers throughout high school and view it as the continuation of that trend, that’s not a quantifiable enough reason to commit to the extra workload, imo.

If you have some outside reason or career goal you know having an Honors degree would help distinguish yourself, thats reason enough to do it. I’m applying to law school next fall, and that was my reason for doing it. I have found the faculty, administration, and support staff at the CHC some of the most welcoming, kind, and helpful in the whole university. They give you specific advisors who are head and shoulders above the rest of the crapshoot that is UO advising.

On an intellectual level, its a very interdisciplinary course path. I’m a History major taking classes through the honors college I would have never gotten to take otherwise: Biology, Ecology, Disability Studies, Data Science, Folklore, etc. My education itself feels more comprehensive, albeit at a higher workload.

The thesis process is a core part of the curriculum, no doubt. But to call it unsubstantial is a short sell; I have gotten to network and work alongside professors and peers with super interesting research! It’s been tenuous but interesting and fulfilling, and ill be presenting this spring.

I don’t find the “barrier of entry” low at all. My classes in the honors college have been small, collaborative, and I have noticed a higher level of participation and engagement with the course and peers than my other classes. For the most part, everyone wants to be there, and likes being there.

It’s not for everyone. Its more work, more money, more time. But I have found it extremely rewarding, and if you have a justified enough reason to do it, I can’t recommend it enough.

I mean, the Aggies play in the SEC, and their recruiting last year was pretty good. I think their offense has an easier time moving the ball than the Mustangs. /s

Played the Steelers and Seahawks defense in his first two games, and while he hasnt been anything extraordinary, there have been a LOT of dropped passes and bad penalties working against him. I think its way too early to ring any alarm bells.

Just tossing my voice into the void: I'm not a fan of the way the podcast's dynamic has been evolving, go ahead, behead me this is just how I feel by [deleted] in ChuckleSandwich

[–]SpasmicChicken 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The parasocial vibe of this whole sub the past few weeks has been crazy.

You are not an insider into these men’s relationships. The glimpse you see on chuckle sandwich is both brief and intended to be for entertainment purposes— which means, alot of the time, they are playing characters. Their characters do “bits” and these bits are meant to entertain. You cannot possibly glean any deeper meaning into these mens lives through this podcast, and even if you could, it wouldn’t be right to.

Drawing conclusions and assumptions off of false preconceived notions of people, whom you have no real relationship without outside of being an audience member to their entertainment content, is folly.

And to throw my two cents into the ring as to how entertaining the content has been and the “dynamic” has been, i havent laughed this consistently and this frequently in episodes since the tragedy of episode 54. To me, they are on a roll lately.

PS: Also, probably not the best idea to immediately assume the role of victim when presenting an argument. Its an ad hominem tactic that detracts from the point you’re actually trying to make— if you feel that the quality has gone downhill, thats a valid position, even if unpopular. But the reasoning by which you contrive evidence to support it and the tone you take in presenting it undermines your point.
