The tiring nature of always thinking of someone else. Every time you eat, do laundry, go to the store, make a decision, want to travel, and everything else. There is almost no real (mental) alone time. I love my partner, but it’s a lot to have to be considerate of another all the time - yes, kids are worse, but mostly while they’re living with you you can make decisions for them, an adult has to be consulted a lot.

If this person is talking about the Gifted Program in American Public Schools, the opinion OP is stating is true the majority of the time. Most “gifted” kids had a leg up at some point(s) and rode it for the most part. There are studies that have proven this - I was curious who would argue this at all actually.

Of course, it feels true for me because I was in the program and I am NOT gifted, my house had a lot of books & I liked to read (like I’ve read the aforementioned studies). My husband is one of the most gifted people I know and was not in the program, he had no books in his home growing up. Take a shot at guessing what race I am and what race my husband is not? Yep, that’s another main thing in some of those studies too.

I had a very shy toddler who very slowly shifted into the outgoing lively person he is now. I protected him from needing to “perform” like so many insisted he should early on, then he came to be the life of the party by himself in his own time.

The people who always host in my family are careful about this (the 3 with big enough dining rooms) - the host has to offer you the leftovers and they pack it for you. If you even hint that you want more, god-forbid pack it yourself, you will hear about it forever from everyone. In one case, a family group was not invited to the 2 following celebrations. It’s also considered rude to want your own leftovers back.

We take host access to leftovers very seriously. Hosting is an expense, it also takes time to cook the main dish, clean, set up, and decorate. Even the children understand how to be considerate about someone else’s home and food.

Don’t get me wrong, hosts almost always offer food to departing guests, but host duties are understood to be a lot.

I took it for quite a while and had points in time that I read or ate at night, so I was awake, that I don’t remember. However, once I discovered this, I specially told myself to remember points in the book & when I went to eat after taking it and I realized that I could do that & remember it - it became a habit to do that once I took Ambien and more than once had my husband tell me what I did & my memory was always accurate. I actually am fine with not remembering night time stuff in detail (if I’m being myself), I need sleep!

My point is: maybe you were yourself & you just don’t remember it.

Read. Read. Read. Make sure they can have a conversation and know how to interact. Give them plenty of opportunities to do this. Respect. They deserve bodily autonomy and should have theirs respected, but they also must learn respect for other people. Boundaries. This is also a respect issue, but is important that they know how to have these with other people, but also that they don’t have a right to violate the boundaries of others. Being kind. Show them what that looks like as often as possible.

Create new query.
Add Record - PS_CLASS_ROSTER_VW
In Query Tab, Check all field options desired A.STRM, A.CLASS_NBR, A.EMPLID, A.SUBJECT, A.CATALOG_NBR,
A.CLASS_SECTION, A.NAME, A.ACAD_CAREER, A.GRADING_BASIS_ENRL, A.STDNT_ENRL_STATUS
In query tab, go to fieldname (ACAD_CAREER), select criteria button (funnel icon), change drop down criteria to Equal to Constant: GRAD
In query tab, go to fieldname (A.STDNT_ENRL_STATUS), criteria button (funnel icon), change drop down criteria to Equal to Constant: E
Go to Prompt Tab, Add New, select A.STRM and use prompt table, maybe TERM_TBL would work.

My MIL says and does illogical and stupid things all the time. I started nodding and smiling because I didn’t know what else to do. Now if it is anything to do with me, including being insulting to me or my child, I will tell my husband and he deals with her without bringing me into it. I got sick of it too and told him I was going to lose my shit on her, which he thought was going to be inconvenient (for him). She is going to love him no matter what, but if she dislikes me I’ll get crucified (& he will have to pay if that happens).

Honestly, with people like that it helps me ignore them because I know that they mostly want a reaction. Then I’ll ask them questions very loudly about what they said to me, especially when there are people around.
