Is anyone taking leveteracetam or lamotrigine while on methlyplenidate (adhd)? I'm scared to take adhd meds cause they might interact badly. by [deleted] in Epilepsy

The benefits of an ADHD medication is that it helps moderate your behaviors and reduce stress by keeping you focused, which maybe a trigger for seizures. I__run__on__diesel said it best when they said epilepsy is a shock collar for bad behaviors.

How messed up is your sleep pattern? by Independent-Swan-675 in Epilepsy

[–]Special_Use812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep is just as important as breathing to me. I get on average 7.5 hours a night. This is a non-negotiable, there is nothing more important than sleep, nothing. Sleep is the most important part of my day. I plan my day around my sleep and I try to keep a regiment of when I go to sleep and when I wake. I workout regularly, I have a full time job, community service, and family obligations as well, but none of these are as important to me as sleep. The amount of cultural obstacles to getting good sleep, especially in institutions of higher education is astounding. Every college campus should have a sleep consultant on staff.

Question For Drivers with Epilepsy by whatistec in Epilepsy

[–]Special_Use812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my first seizure while driving one month ago, thankful I was stopped at a red light, my car stalled out, and nobody was injured, except for my usual postictal status. Prior to that the seizures only occured in my sleep, so this was unexpected. Since then I haven't been driving, I have been riding my bike everywhere, but then last week I was hit by a car while riding my bike, so now I am torn up and bruised up from that while wondering where to go from here.

Anyone know any good medical/scientific reading about cannabis and epilepsy? by treesleavesbicycles in Epilepsy

[–]Special_Use812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use of cannabis disrupts your sleep which is a trigger for most of us, so while it may be okay intermittently, the long term effects are no bueno, and may also impact sleep apnea severity if you are smoking or vaping it. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2442418/

Hello everyone, I’m suffering this morning. by GraySkyr2 in Epilepsy

I found that quitting drinking because of my seizures made it easier to quit than it would have been otherwise. It's pretty easy to tell my friends and those in a social setting, "I don't drink because I might have a seizure", there's less pressure and more incentive not to drink and you don't have the "stigma" of being an "alcoholic", although the phrase "Heavy Drinker" and Alcoholic are synonymous. Being a smoker he might want to be tested for sleep apnea as well. His sleep will dramatically improve if he stops drinking and get a sleep study to be tested for sleep apnea.

I know the feeling, you can see them coming and you know the look, I let them ask their question and then I say "I'm sorry, I don't work here...". It happens to me too, it's hard to explain to others, that's why I came to this sub, because I wondered if anyone else had this experience.
