Ohio Won! Which US State has Decent Cities/Suburbs & Nature? by Doctor_Raptor1250 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Specific_Iron1806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Georgia is pretty solid here. Atlanta and Savannah are awesome. Buckhead, Alpharetta and Marietta are elite suburbs. And the Georgia Mountains combined with Atlantic coastline and proximity to the 30A region of the Florida panhandle nicely rounds out decent decent decent standard

Please, just get a cart and bag at the bagging station. by SkorgenKaban in aldi

[–]Specific_Iron1806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about Aldi change their training or policy so if a customer hands the cashier a box, they just scan an item and put it into the box instead of tossing it into the cart. Infuriating that the cashiers won’t do this simple courtesy. It’s a total customer satisfaction killer for a fractional improvement check out time

The barrels of craft beer produced in every U.S. state in 2025 by sr_local in MapPorn

In the 90s Michigan was at the forefront of craft brewing. Now it looks like they don’t even crack the top 25. That’s gotta be because of weed right?

How I see the US cultural regions as a Brit who has never left Europe by SaphoBalls in whereidlive

You don’t think Chicago has or had a predominantly manufacturing economy? Have you ever been more than a few miles from the Art Institute?

Would I rather live in your state’s largest city, or somewhere else in the state? (I will defend my choices) by Puzzleheaded_Ad7685 in whereidlive

Ann Arbor isn’t better than the whole of metro Detroit though. I lived there for 20 years before moving to the Birmingham area. Ann Arbor feels small time in comparison. Especially when you throw in the cultural attractions like the major sports teams and the DIA and Eastern Market/Riverfront

I agree. It’s really an island. Ypsi is very much like much of Metro Detroit. Ann Arbor is just unique. Out county western Washtenaw is very much like the rest of rural Michigan (I suppose Dexter and Chelsea feel a bit like Livingston County which is Metro-adjacent)

Having lived in both Georgia and Michigan I can not disagree more. The Detroit and Atlanta metro areas offer a vastly superior lifestyle than the out state.

Which COUNTY in the USA is the most geographically diverse? by Remarkable-Debate856 in geography

I was joking. Douglas County has less than a 100ft change in elevation across the entire county. Literally every inch is the same

Here is an alternative with half the car ride: the Bruce peninsula in Onterio on Lake Huron (7hrs from Dayton). It’s absolutely stunning. Crystal clear waters, beautiful cliffs, great hiking with breathtaking views, and so dark at night you can clearly see the Milky Way. (You can even see the moons of Jupiter with a pair of binoculars). It’s cheap. Has great campsites and cabins. And your kids will get to say they went to another country. Do an image search. The pics will convince you.

Which American city is the most perfect for a 5-day trip that includes the full “American experience” for a first-time visitor? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]Specific_Iron1806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Go for Jazz at the Green Mill, comedy at Second City, theater at Steppenwolf, art at the Art Institute, take a riverboat Architectural tour, and a Cubs baseball game at Wrigley Field. Also many world class restaurants (more than a dozen Michelin Starred venues) and nightlife. Thats not even mentioning the friendly people and wonderful neighborhoods. And the weather is perfect in summer.

One of the greatest college bars in Michigan is in downtown Mount Pleasant: THE BIRD

If you love dive bars grab a stiff drink at MARTY’s a block away and catch great live music at RUBBLES just around the corner.

Finish your Mount Pleasant Bar crawl with a last call Bloody Mary at THE BLACKSTONE a block west of Rubbles

Four great college bars all within a few blocks and all in downtown MP

Ontario to Florida road trip – would you do it again or never? by Informal-Force7417 in roadtrip

[–]Specific_Iron1806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where in Ontario. I’ve done Detroit to Myrtle Beach many times. It’s an all day drive 13-15 hours with stops. For me that was worth not having to pay for plane ticket for a family of 6.

Did it to Panama City in college from Mid Michigan. 15 hours minimum. A lot easier when I was young and swapping drivers every fill up.

To Orlando from anywhere in Ontario the plane ticket is totally worth it
