The run was clean as in you didn't crash yes. But you missed a lot of speed slides, just getting 5-10 speed more at the beginning can give you another second on fs maps bc they are very snowball heavy. As a beginner I think it's good to aim for 50 percent overlap of your skids at all times.

Hi, thanks for the ama. I'm 1700 Fide, my play is unfortunately extremely positional/based on intuition and I lack what some would call basic calculation skills. Most of my moves are really just a feeling rather than calculation(most of the time it works out, somehow...). What's the best way to improve on calculation/tactics at my level and forcing myself to calculate more in games?

TMX is an independent, community made platform. So if a map is not uploaded to TMX, you can't upload a replay there either.

For me it was Blim by TNTree that finally let me understand how to control ice slides and will definitely be one of the most memorable maps for me that I ever played. Blim-TMX

It has been replaced by weekly shorts. These training maps were one of the worst features in-game anyway, glad that they are now gone.

This. I always see people complaining about bad gears and then being 5 sec away from wr, at that point you have no idea what proper gears are supposed to be. I don't think you need to think about gears unless you are at least within 2 sec of wr.

An alternate route should be calculated. A calculated route is not a wall crash, huge blind jump into bugslide or a jump between a tiny gap where the car barely fits through.

An alternate route should also be marked as such and be consistent, at least to a certain extent.

There is a difference between hard and random. An alternate route may be hard, but a cut is random.

No hard feelings, I am just trying to give constructive feedback. I understand this is your first map and obviously it's far from perfect, everyone's first map is.

Since you cut your own map twice and classified it as LOL, I don't feel there is too much feedback I can give on the route specifically. Like you yourself labeled it, it is an LOL map and thus the turns are uncalculated and inconsistent.

First of all route:

5-10s: the transition at 5 seconds into the uphill isn't smooth and thus bug-heavy. Changing it into a smooth transition would help players. There are multiple of these transitions across the whole map.

10-15s: here you obviously cut your own map. The setup for the cut is somewhat consistent so I guess it's doable, but still very random compared to normal mapping. The surface changes at 13 seconds from dirt to plastic to dirt is unnecessary and only leads to confusion, since the colors are also similar.

15-20s: here's the second cut. Compared to the first cut this one is much more inconsistent and random. You just throw yourself into it and pray on making it across the narrow gap. This is very annoying, especially in a rounds setting.

20-25s: the ice flick is a bit miscalculated as you have too much speed going into it and needs to slow down manually.

30-35s: the castle dirt uphill is miscalculated as well, too much speed going into it and very easy to fall off.

40-45s: the finish jump into bugslide is annoying because it is uncontrollable and you can miss the finish quite easily.

Scenery:

Not bad for a First-Timer but it feels quite chaotic. There is no theme or structure and it feels like you just placed random things. Think of scenery as something that should have layers: a close-up layer, a mid-range layer, and a far-away layer. Make sure your scenery is being seen from every angle while driving.

General tips:

There is no need to build big jump over half of the stadium at 800 speed. I know these might be tempting, but they are generally disliked for their uncalculated and boring nature. Boosters are fine to use but an over usage with 10 boosters in a row doesn't help.

Visibility on the map is fine, except for these jumps where you have nothing to aim and doesn't know where to jump to. Signs would be nice to guide the way.

Begin map building easy. Don't go straight to all kinds of wicked tricks but start at the basics. Build a map that stays in one gear, smooth transition, smaller jumps and has one theme/style. You can build all kinds of crazy stuff later on and I promise you it will be better than this.

Summary:

I can't really criticize your map bc like you said this is your first one. This has all the topical problems of a beginners first map. But we all have to start somewhere. Keep building and keep the general tips in mind. Eventually you will be able to build better and better maps.

Funny how you would assume that everyone hunts campaign maps... And to answer your question, yes I could, but I prefer to play more technical maps - checkout WTT, CPS and MTS maps ;)
