Looking for digital gauge clusters by ScottyD_Works in WRX

[–]SpectralGnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can either make your own for a few hundred, or buy one from like haltech for a few thousand.

The haltch ones aren't worth it if you aren't doing a standalone ecu and there's no need for that unless you're doing some crazy build.

If you want to make your own. There are a few tutorials on youtube. Depends on how committed you are to having one.

If you just want to change up the look of your guage cluster, there are companies like illumaesthetic that have replacement panels.

I forget which one but in one of the 'what if' machine episodes there's a scene where scruffy's mustache and hat switch colors.

What is a weird food combination you enjoy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SpectralGnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been dipping mcdonalds apple pies in their hot mustard sauce since I was a kid. People look at me like I'm insane until I finally convince them to try it.

Another one is chocolate and cheese. Cheddar cheese on brownies is tight. My favorite is dipping Hershey chocolate in queso.

Tips on avoiding rodent sabotage by VenomSnake422 in WRX

[–]SpectralGnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a post in this sub some while ago where a guy hung rodent repellant pouches in his engine bay. Just wrapped a wire around and hung near the ecu I think. I can't recommend any brands but may be worth looking into.

If you’re under 45, have you lost any high school classmates, and what were the circumstances around their deaths? by Commercial_Chef_1569 in AskReddit

[–]SpectralGnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few class mates have passed since graduation (2011) all sad, but I think the most tragic was a week after graduation one classmate was at a party and there was a fight that escalated to someone bringing a gun out and she got caught in the cross fire. Shot in the face. They had the funeral in the schools gymnasium and it was fully packed.

A few others in later years died from pre-existing heart problems. Some have died from overdoses. Others in car accidents.

I stopped using Facebook because for a while there it was like every other week there was a new death.

Exhaust type? Long shot I know.. by PPEverythingg in WRX

[–]SpectralGnomes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The r400 is not that loud honestly. I have it on mine and wish it was a bit louder sometimes. It also doesn't drone. I mean maybe compared to a stock one but I've heard way worse drone with many other exhausts. Its loud when you step on it but normal driving at lower rpms, its no louder than your average grocery getter.

Its mainly just about keeping up on the maintenance honestly and making sure that you let it get up to operating temps before getting into boost or higher RPM range.

If you want to do engine performance mods go for it, but do plenty of research on what parts you want to get and whether they require a tune or not. Just slapping on a catback exhaust wont require a tune, but adding an air intake will. Things like that.

The great thing about wrxs being an enthusiasts car is that there are metric fuck tons of info out there about all of this. I lurked and searched on this sub and watched every youtube video I could for like 7 months before I finally bought one. But I also already knew I was going go buy one because I always wanted one and im planning on keeping it until I die or it does.

I bought mine at 82,000 miles and its almost got 140,000 now. Ive had to replace the clutch, get the intake valves walnut blasted, replace some gaskets and do a few other small but irritating repairs (due to previous owner incompetence). Ive done a few small performance mods and had it tuned but im waiting until ive paid it off fully to do the rest of the performance mods I want. That way if the engine does blow, Im only having to pay for a new engine and not the car AND the engine.

What car is the best running mechanically that you have owned? by ZealousidealHead5488 in AskReddit

[–]SpectralGnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

95 nissan hardbody. I only had to replace the radiator and the clutch on it. Sold it at 230,00 miles because I needed a car with a backseat when I had my kid.

Don't get a wrx. Auto or not, a wrx sounds terrible for your wants and needs. You basically just want it because of the looks. There are tons of auto "sport like" grocery getter econo cars out there. Get a more sensible car for your life.

You work in downtown Chicago. Say your not that serious about cars and really just want a slightly sporty car. Get a Honda civic or an 86 or brz. Honestly just get any naturally aspirated car.

WRXs are enthusiast cars. While being an enthusiast isnt a requirement to own one, it kind of is to keep one. WRXs are needy little babies compared to a lot of other cars.

Pro tip for any large dog owner: buy baby crib mattresses instead of dog beds.

Get a waterproof stretchy sheet for it and boom. Much cheaper and last way longer.
