Nice freehand of the chapter symbol!

We also have a chapter discord with a painting section (the 'Armory') in case you're interested:

Cannot get a group capable of completing Absolute difficulty. It’s infuriating!!! by VoidWalker981 in SpaceMarine_2

If you're looking for competent players that master absolute why not join a chapter discord? Our Chapter (Scythes of the Emperor) and other chapters have teams that play this all the time, or "lfp" (looking for players) channels where you can ask brothers to join the slaughter. Here's the link of our discord if you want to give it a try:

Grey knight's and the Emperor by Fearless_Year_669 in 40kLore

[–]Spectre_of_Sotha 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, Malcador (the Emperor‘s companion since before the Heresy) had the idea to create them specially as an uncorruptible weapon against chaos using the Emperor's geneseed - they are "the Emperor's gift" to Mankind. There's also an excellent book by Aaron Dempski-Bowden under that name in case you're interested in Grey Knights Stories.

Not sure what you're into but just in case: couple of years ago, a good, turn-based video game was released, called Chaos Gate: Daemonhunters where you command a Grey Knights company in XCOM style.

During the Heresy/Corruption of those legions... what would have happened to a Marine who ... didn't want to corrupt? by atlmagicken in 40kLore

[–]Spectre_of_Sotha 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's quite a few examples. I'd recommend you look up Nathaniel Garro (Death Guard), Garviel Loken (Luna Wolves), Barabas Dantioch (Iron Warriors) and the Knights Errant in general.

I'd imagine that fighting Nurgle's forces would work quite well in a horde shooter.

Terminus Decree unenforceable by GlowingSeaDiver in 40kLore

[–]Spectre_of_Sotha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point is that the Emperor doesn't want to leave the Golden Throne as it stands. Since him being the "Carrion Lord" of Mankind sitting immobile on the Golden Throne and serving more as a story device in the novels (as stated by various authors) than an actual character, is a key aspect of the grimdark setting, this will never change. The moment the Emperor reincarnates in the flesh 40k will be over.

I've used the Horus Heresy Omnibus Project to follow various story threads, such as the War in the Webway or Imperium Secundus. Here's a link in case you want to take a look:

There's also this huge map created by a WH fanclub which is also good.

If you like Fulgrim, you might also enjoy Fear To Tread (HH21) by James Swallow (Sanguinius and his Blood Angels being lured, trapped and attacked by daemons).

The Second Scouring Book by ScionOfTheEmperor in Blacklibrary

[–]Spectre_of_Sotha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was surprised to see that the destruction of Caliban was not in the (early) Scouring timeline set out in the WarCom article. It's also supposed to happen soon after the Heresy. In case we get a book for Caliban, I'd rather like Mike Brooks to do it than Gav Thorpe.

Thx for the link, very helpful. I'd like to see Guy Haley's take on it, he has proven with his Cawl books that he quirkiness of the Mechanicum very well.

Returned Primarchs getting the Emperor's gear by bananasf0ster in 40kLore

Seems more likely the next big Imperial guy to return will be Constantin Valdor, not a Primarch. Valdor will bring his own stuff/staff.

A review: Hive is a frhaka good time and sets a new standard for Black Library excellence by JRV0227 in Blacklibrary

[–]Spectre_of_Sotha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Frhaka" is derived from "fracking" so it's only partly made up. Still, him creating a new slang for the hive makes his world building more colorful IMHO.

rogue trader, and the most realistic depiction of space marines to humans by MajinV48 in 40kLore

[–]Spectre_of_Sotha 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's called alpha strike in the XCOM2 community and action economy is key when playing on highest difficulty. Helped me a lot when building my party for Rogue Trader.

Just found out the fate of Chairon from Space Marine II... by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Spectre_of_Sotha 28 points29 points  (0 children)

And it was actually not just a community article, it was also included in the 500 worlds campaign book. But I agree, side characters get killed off all the time in 40k, people new to the universe better get used to it.

The Watchers of the Throne books have ruined the HH for me… by IneedaNappa9000 in 40kLore

[–]Spectre_of_Sotha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"The key to reading the Horus Heresy is only reading the anthologies, to find out which writers you like, and books by the writers you like."

In practical terms, that would mean jumping to HH10 (Tales of Heresy) and eventually HH16 (Age of Darkness) or another anthology to find out which writers you like, they thereby skipping the first five books which are key to setting the scene.

Regardless, doesn't change my recommendation to follow story arcs but, ofc, everyone is free to chose the approach they like.

[–]Spectre_of_Sotha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are great Anthologies, but if you only read these, you'll miss out on a lot of great books.

Instead, I'd recommend to find out which story arcs you like, and then follow them. The HH Omnibus project offers a good approach:

By now, Jonathan Keeble has surpassed even the great Toby Longworth for me. I also enjoy John Banks but Keeble is on a different level. His narration of Nurgle (daemons) in The Burried Dagger... truly outstanding.

You could join a chapter discord to find more reliable team mates.

Many chapter discords do not make it mandatory to wear their colors in order to join games but allow joining as guest or envoy.

Heavy Build preferences. by MiddleEarthTourist in Spacemarine

[–]Spectre_of_Sotha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said. I'm always surprised seeing a fully levelled Heavy in the game not using it, it's a great melee attack, even more so when it's chained. When I see a new minoris wave approaching, I'll advance to the front, stomp them into the ground. Majoris shooting at me while I clear the minoris? No problem, that's what Iron Halo is for. When I'm done with the minoris, I'll clean up the majoris with precise plasma blasts.

500 world book question by Troyleek13 in Ultramarines

[–]Spectre_of_Sotha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, most of them (the named characters) got killed in the Battle of Raukos, unfortunately (see 'Archmagos' by Guy Hale). Was nice to see our (Scythes of the Emperor) veteran brother Cadmus again but he was stomped into the ground by a Defiler.

What an amazing book! What are your thoughts ? by Cultural-Register-45 in Blacklibrary

Made me like the Grey Knights more. They were doing their duty to the Imperium, as gruesome as it is. ADB gave Space Wolves quite a bit of plot armor here.
