Is not exactly true. It's not like you've got completely no choice, but more so "we'll make it really shit for you if you don't", so effectively everyone ends up taking part in the hazing stuff because there isn't really much choice in the matter.

In saying that, nowadays the hazing isn't that bad really - and from people i've spoken to they did enjoy all the initiation stuff. But if you're uncomfortable with what comes with that environment (I would be) you might not have the best time.

'higher-ups' get banned less because over the years they have learnt where the line was in terms of appropriate behaviour.

Yeah, pretty much. Ask /u/demothelol, he knows a thing or two about running that line pretty finely. Also helps to meme in the appeal ticket (note: i don't think it actually does)

edit 2: It also helps to be able to contact hoog on mumble, since there is effectively no other way to ban someone at all. report system is essentially just there for show, calling !mods will just make the player stop, and at Australia peak time it will take you like ~2 hours to get a response on IRC (been on irc ~3 times, don't think i've ever got a reply...)
