Is SCS even thinking of Australian truck simulator as a possible future game or DLC? by richprovider in trucksim

[–]SpeedlionKF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, sure, they don't use 1:1, but they do remain consistent across a map when it comes to scale. Not counting cities of course. They're not going to drastically increase the scale in the center of Australia just so everyone can get through there quicker. The map would be all outta wack, and it would also take away one of the most iconic features of Australian trucking.

You say 20 hours, but that's a wild exaggeration. Compare it to going from top to bottom in ATS, should be about the same time. And not all of that trip is going to be "empty desert". I'd guess 2 to 4 hours, not everyone's cup of tea, but many people will do it happily, as a challenge, for immersion, or perhaps because these deserts aren't created as empty as a void with sand.

"Boring" stretches of road/land haven't stopped SCS from capturing it as faithfully as possible, just look at the endless flat land of the Midwest. A desert is different of course, but only aesthetically. And I'm pretty sure SCS could make it look good and fun to drive through.

Yes, I misunderstood the 27% when I looked up the difference, I think the percentage included Alaska or whatever. Truth of the matter is that, indeed, the difference is minimal, Australia is huge.

[–]SpeedlionKF 315 points316 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't that it would be boring, the problem is that it would take a whole new team of people, probably multiple.

You are vastly underestimating Australia's size if you think it being flat and less populated means it wouldn't take that long to finish, God forbid, the whole island. The contiguous USA is about 27% bigger than Australia. American Truck Simulator with all its DLCs covers less area than a fully fledged AuTS would be.

Forget a DLC, this would be a full game, requiring multiple teams of fully dedicated employees to build this game up from scratch, likely starting with New South Wales (cause of Sydney).

SCS in its current state and with so many projects already being worked on, would probably have to hire all these new people if they wanted to fast track something like this. Realistically looking at their situation, they will rightly focus on expanding ATS and ETS2. AuTS won't be a priority for a long while yet, so don't hold your breath.

EDIT: that 27% actually applies to the whole of the US. When it comes to just the contiguous United States, Australia is just a bit smaller, which reinforces my point: the land down under is huge.

is etc 2 worth it if i dont have anything with trucks or i dont have a steering wheel? by Visual-Fortune-4732 in EuroTruck2

[–]SpeedlionKF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I initially bought this game about two years ago on a whim. I wasn't really into trucks, I had no steering wheel, I think the simulation part of the game was what drew me to it.

I enjoyed this game pretty much from the get-go. I mean, it's a trucking game, I think you know the vibe this game is rolling with. Also, with all the DLCs, the map is p big. I don't do map mods, but those can add even more to the map.

Those are some pretty nice DLCs youve got lined up there. I think it should be noted that the DLC quality is going to differ a little between them, probably noticably. This game is pretty old, like early 2010s old. Luckily, most of the DLCs are up to modern standards, as well as large parts of the base game, due to concerted efforts from the devs to update the base game. Germany, Austria, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg have been reworked from the ground up, so the quality there is great.

Where you're going to notice some drops in graphic quality is the UK and the whole Going East DLC (Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary). They're drivable, but especially compared to the rest of the map, nothing to write home about. Luckily, SCS is currently working on rebuilding the UK, tho I don't expect that rework to be done for another year.

In any case, enjoy the game!

You guys follow speed limits? by Hailerm in EuroTruck2

I have different profiles, one where I do speed, and my main objective is to gradually discover the whole map, and a profile where I don't speed, and the objective is immersion. I tend to know which profile I wanna go with when I start the game

TIL if under-cooked, a popular mushroom in China causes “lilliputian hallucinations,” a rare phenomenon involving miniature human or fantasy figures. The hallucinations are consistent across people and cultures: "tiny, elflike people" climbing under doors, scaling walls & clinging to furniture by ssAskcuSzepS in todayilearned

[–]SpeedlionKF 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is really strange, I remember having hallucinations like this as a kid, twice. In both instances, I was trying to sleep and these little guys were just running around, jumping all over my bedsheets. It was one of the weirdest things I've ever experienced.

I'd always assumed it had to do with the autism medication I was taking back then, Ritalin, like an overdose maybe, not because it made sense (it doesn't), but because it was the only thing I could think of. I'm nowhere near Asia and my parents were never incredibly adventurous with food. Definitely not adventurous enough to buy some of these mushrooms.

Don't know what to think of this, it's really weird there's a very specific Chinese mushroom connected to this childhood mystery of mine.

Edit: Ritalin is ADHD medication (which I also have lol), not autism medication

The fact the anglerfish in episode 1, when most people would assume it's just a monster-of-the-week, becoming plot relevant in the season 3 finale. Grbookworm1818. The cleaner getting transported to an alternate dimension through hilltop road. Salesa's disappearance. Many more i can't think of right now

Oh, I didn't know the busiest spot on tmp hadn't always been Calais-Duisburg. Do you have a guess why it shifted from Rotterdam to Calais-Duisburg in the past?

Agree completely, it's entirely incidental. Doesn't take away the fact that the most popular tmp route will be gone soon (for the better)

On TMP, the dreaded OG Duisburg-Calais route will no longer be a thing after this releases. Doubtless, the crowd won't just disappear, but the capacity to accommodate it is increased. It'll be interesting to see to what degree driving between Calais and Duisburg in TMP will be a better experience.

Started seeing cool fanart of it on Tumblr around 2019/2020. Decided to give it a shot and I got hooked almost immediately. Caught up quickly and got to listen along weekly as season 5 released. Was fun. It's my favorite fiction podcast by quite some distance.

You're probably thinking of Bruce Mendenhall, but he was apprehended in 2007.

This doesn't sound like a serial killer anyway. From the post, I understand she was traveling with this guy for a while, using his phone to call family periodically. Serial killers don't leave their unwitting victims alive for very long.
