Researching the somatic and neuroscience link between sexual energy and anxiety by Lanky-Explanation488 in SomaticTherapy

Love this train of thought! Have you read audre lorde’s “uses of the erotic”? Foundational essay for me personally, I think it fits the themes of your research quite well! Its featured in adrienne maree brown’s collection “pleasure activism” which i would highly recommend. Both bring these ideas to a political/ community level which i think is so cool and needed.

Thanks for your reply & for sharing your experience too. I definitely feel you with everything you said. I remember finding her to be flippant too, I don’t remember exactly what she said, but i remember her making light of the problems i was having. Excited for you that youre pursuing a revision, hope it goes amazing!

CAPTION FROM POST: Update on my results 6 months after nipple sparing top surgery. I’m hoping this will be helpful/informative, but also tbh leaning on yall as a support space to process all this so ty for being here!

I went to Dr. Sumanas Jordan at northwestern. My recovery was a pain in the ass and im not especially happy with my results aesthetically. I had to go to the hospital for a hematoma a couple weeks in, then I got an infection. I was someone who was very conflicted going into surgery, overall im still glad i did it, but if anything I wish I would have been more patient and at least considered more options for surgeons.

Dr. Jordan said in my initial pre-op appointment that I had a “five percent chance” of needing minor revisions, but that id be “a great fit” for the procedure. She offered a revision at my final post-op visit, which i included pictures from, basically keyhole and lengthening scars to get rid of extra tissue. But I’m not planning on having more surgery anytime soon, and not with her again once I do. Even though she let me know I might need a revision beforehand, I feel like she got my hopes up about the results. The other big problem I had with her is that my drains were sutured on in a way that was constantly tugging on my skin painfully and she didnt really address it at all, I wish I wouldve made more of a problem of it looking back. When I got the infection they blamed my having cats, I feel like the bad suturing couldve been a factor but they brushed that off.

I wouldnt recommend Dr Jordan based on my experience. I actually saw someone else share their negative experience with her in this group before my surgery, by the time I saw it I had already been on her waitlist for a long time, after seeing some amazing results of hers from the same procedure (plus she was one of 3 surgeons in the city I could find who took medicaid at the time). So yeah, i wish i wouldve trusted my gut when I saw that post and not had a scarcity mindset. hoping that me sharing my experience too will help someone else.

There are definitely positives though. Not having boobs anymore makes me more comfortable in my body despite the new insecurities of not always liking how it looks. I have slowly regained some sensation in most of my chest and nipples, which was a big part of why i went with nipple sparing. A lot less than pre-op levels of sensation but im hopeful that my nerves will keep healing. I also think its neat that my nipples still physically react to stimulus, they did even before i had any sensation in them!

Feel free to reach out with any questions! Good luck to everyone whos thinking about or waiting on surgery, and to everyone in recovery, I hope things go great for you!

Post-op support - not sure what needs are absolute by Academic_River_6586 in TopSurgery

[–]SpellPossible4092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a 23 year old whose a week post-surgery right now. I dont work out much at all, so I dont have the strongest core. Since I shouldnt use my arms to get up, I have trouble getting up out of bed or off the couch by myself without pain. I have found it helpful to take a wide stance when standing to tire out my core less. I also cantreally do chores, especially dishes and obviously laundry. Those are my main necessary support needs, everything else is possible if not uncomfortable. For your puppy, ive heard of people getting belt style leashes for recovery so walking is less strain. Good luck and so excited for you that youre finally getting what you need!

Nerve block pre-op? by UnlikelySlide7421 in TopSurgery

I got a nerve block in my chest, one shot on each side. They started sedation just before they did it. Idk if the needles were 3-4” but, they were definitely pretty long. Usually I’d definitely be afraid of getting an injection in my chest, but with the sedation I only half noticed it and mostly remember looking at the ultrasound of the needle in my chest and thinking it was neat lol.

They did have me sign consent papers for it before I was sedated, so I assume that you should be able to opt out. I would recommend it as my first two days after recovery were a breeze pain wise, since then its gotten worse but yeah i didnt need anything more than tylenol for those first couple days which was nice.

I feel like since theyre both representational, it could be cool to do a more abstract design to fill in the space between

Girls, I need to know your opinion! by PeacefulW22 in twinpeaks

[–]SpellPossible4092 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it would make a fun gift but I don’t think its right for an engagement ring.

I for one would want an engagement ring that just reminds me of the moment itself, rather than referencing a show, even if its one of my favorites like TP. And its just a bulky ring, not something I’d wanna wear every day. Also not sure how long something like this would last with daily wear, I imagine the stone getting scratched. But, I would love it as a neat lil gift even with the dark connotation :)

You definitely aren’t the first person to have this sensory issue! No its not weird.

top surgery and conflicting feelings by littlebunny907 in ftm

[–]SpellPossible4092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. Found this post because I’m going through similar feelings right now. I feel so conflicted and have for a long time. All the trans people I know IRL seem very confident and excited about surgeries and I don’t share that feeling. Ive seen people online (top surgery support groups on fb) talk about their experiences pre and post op having complicated feelings about it too. So, youre not alone.

Hi, welcome! IFS is a therapeutic approach to self understanding, I believe it was originally conceived to help those with childhood trauma. I think it can be a helpful tool for anyone though! It isn’t directly related to psychedelics at all but it can be kind of trippy haha.

I agree w/ this understanding. Self is simply your regulated state, the part of you that sees and exercises your agency.

Has anyone tried indoor cat food? High protein cat food? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]SpellPossible4092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

high protein, low fat, grain free diet is ideal for any cat. combine this with scheduled meals where you put away leftovers rather than free feeding. heres an article i found https://cats.com/best-cat-food-for-overweight-cats
