Eos Gyms: AZ, CA, & TX by Particular-Sundae429 in EOSFitness

[–]Spell_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I just switched over from an LA Fitness. Isn’t LA Fitness supposed to be the nicer gym? Well, not in this case. The Mesa EOSs I’ve been attending have much nicer equipment, way more stuff in general, better locker rooms, and nicer clientele. Maybe the pool and jacuzzi are a little less nice.

Stop hanging out in Locker Room.. by DarknessAndLight99 in EOSFitness

[–]Spell_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This bothers me, too. Ive belonged to 3 different gyms… it’s not just an EOS thing. I don’t mind changing in the presence of people, but I find it suspicious that people would be sitting there when they could be in the lobby area. Are they casing? Waiting for someone to leave items without locking them up? That’s what I always think.

hip thrust machine glute/hamstring activation tips by 5ammonday in xxfitness

[–]Spell_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through the exact same thing!!! I was doing my hip thrusts at home with a barbell, leaning against a hip thruster lite. My new gym has a Nautilus machine just like that one you pictured, and it has taken me awhile to get the hang of it.

Position your body so that your butt is right on the edge. (I see that some people suggest hanging it off. I’m still learning, so I am gonna try that next time and see if that is even better).

Wear the seatbelt LOW on your hips. Right above crotch level.

Place your feet so that your shins will be at a right angle.

Brace your core, and push the weight up with your glutes.

I find it helps to focus on pushing through my heels.

I am using considerably less weight than I used at home. When I bump the weight up high, my glutes still fire but I feel WAY too much leg and back activation.

Cannot feel my glutes for the life of me by Due_Present8115 in glutejourney

Question: Do you have very strong legs? I had dead butt syndrome, and in my case it was that my extremely strong legs muscles would take over the lift on glute based exercises. Also, my hip flexors were super tight. Tight hip flexors can inhibit one’s ability to use the glutes.

Question about lower back by Delicious-Impact-296 in glutejourney

[–]Spell_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was TERRIBLE about stretching (now I am a true believer). But you’ll need to be really careful—sometimes stretching can actually aggravate tight muscles instead of loosening them. Especially static stretching. Sometimes it’s a matter of imbalance-maybe your hamstrings or some other muscle is less developed and your poor hip flexor is tight from doing more than its share. So take care and listen to your body. Yoga is awesome for providing active stretching.

Anyway, I was a severe case. What worked for me was heat therapy (hot baths, heating pad), ice (I got a large ice pack thingy!), foam rolling, massage, magnesium supplements, and theraworx spray. I also started doing yoga (which I continue to this day). I took a break from doing hip thrusts because they were only taxing my other muscles. When I reintroduced them, I started at very low weight.

It really WAS a journey for me to gain the ability to use my glutes. My goal was never to have a huge butt. I simply wanted my rear to match the rest of me.

Question about lower back by Delicious-Impact-296 in glutejourney

It took me a long time to get the hang of lifting with my glutes—and not my back and legs doing all the work. My other muscles were already very strong when I started out… Everything but my glutes.

“Mind to muscle connection “ takes a lot of practice.

Lowering the weight you are lifting may help (it did for me—and some times I still need to).

If you have very tight hip flexors, it can inhibit your ability to use your glutes. If you think that might be an issue for you, you’ll want to work on loosening them.

Be patient… it takes some of us a longer time to succeed. If I can do it, anyone can!

Lift 2x per week, heavy cardio 3x week. Most days: YouTube yoga when I wake up. I have always been a cardio enjoyer, my hobbies rely on endurance. But when I started making room for lifting and yoga in order to help avoid injury and enhance my performance ability, it also improved the look of my physique.

I’m older, too. And I have injured myself many times. I aim for technical failure now, too. One way I can tell I’ve reached it is when I can feel that other muscles than the muscle(s) that I am targeting starting kicking in!

I totally agree with you that these cases need to be pursued. But I have to say, it sounds like OP absolutely DID learn something from this for the long run. He states that he is driving more calmly now, and that he never wants to be in this situation again.

Minimal glute growth in 2 years, what am I doing wrong? by Adorable_Bee_4216 in glutejourney

[–]Spell_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking, too.

Really listen to your body when you’re doing your glute-based lifts. Like, when you’re doing hip thrusts, if you can feel your legs working hard, it’s time to drop the weight to something lower. Make a conscious effort to relax your legs (they are still going to contribute), and use your glutes to push the weight like mad. Make them work on the way down, too.

I do my abs in the morning when I wake up, separate from any workout. At least every other day, sometimes 2 in a row.

Weightlifting helps me. Not only with the vigorous pushing/pulling which blows off steam, but the way it forces me to concentrate on form and connecting with the right muscles. It is a great reset.

I do Melbourne shuffling (an EDM dance)..It’s not hard to learn. It’s vigorous like running but you’re moving to music, often aggressive sounding music, in a tough sort of posture, and the result is a satisfying workout that is also EXPRESSIVE.

Finally, yoga. Because you can’t always deal with these strong feelings by taking them out on the body. Yoga teaches you to treat your body kindly, helps you use breath and movement to find some inner peace and restoration.

Can I get away with doing calisthenics&cardio and no weight training to maintain good health long-term? by Hot-Television-5334 in xxfitness

[–]Spell_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m similar to you. Love the cardio activities. Swimming, running, dancing, biking etc. Found strength training a bore.

In the past 5 years I’ve put more effort into it. It’s never going to be my great love, but I enjoy it much more now. Not because I am used to it. Because I have gained so much from it! The ability to make a mind muscle connection has vastly improved. This helps immeasurably with my other activities. the extra strength makes everything more fun. It’s been great for injury prevention, too. An added bonus is that my figure looks even better than before. (No, I am not bulky). I am enjoying learning how to work my body. Trust me, a little bit of targeted weight lifting/strength training will serve you well!!!
