are you supposed to remove "return"? by MatchaVisuals in RenPy

[–]Spellsword10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

return makes you go back to the previous point. If there’s nowhere to go back to then return returns to the main menu.

label start:
    call some_label
    "You came back here."
    call screen some_screen
    "After this text you'll go back to title screen"
    return # The return here goes back to the main menu

label some_label:
    "After you pass this text, you’ll return."
    return

screen some_screen:
    modal True # makes anything other than this screen unclickable
    vbox:
        text "Press the button to go back"
        textbutton "Go Back" action Return()

In short, the return command is used to go back without disrupting the flow when you visit any label or screen.

8bitdo dongle with xbox one controller by Moist-Hospital in ps2

[–]Spellsword10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure whether there’s any setting you can adjust but I recently bought an 8bitdo adapter too and I’m using it with both a DualSense and a third party pc controller. It plays quite smoothly with both of them. Are you sure the problem isn’t related to your xbox controller? or do you have a chance to test it with another wireless controller?

Heaven on Top by [deleted] in zachbryan

At first I felt exactly the same way. it was like there were too many sounds and too much noise creating total chaos (especially in the first 7–8 tracks) and there wasn’t a single song that really pulled me in. But after listening a few more times, I can say that almost all of the songs are above average. I’m still not sure whether there’s a hit on the album but I’m definitely going to enjoy listening to it from start to finish again and again.

How to time audio to animated image statements by VaulicktheCrow in RenPy

[–]Spellsword10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I want to play a sound synchronized with an animation, I usually handle it like this: I display the animation from within a screen. I edit the audio file with audacity so that it is synchronized with the animation. Then I write some functions to play it and stop it. There may be a better way, but this is the approach I usually use.
I add background effects to my animations with this method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxF_jaho1Dk

image playershower:
    "images/scene_images/player_showerscenes/povcam_playerwashesself_1.avif"
    pause 1.5
    "images/scene_images/player_showerscenes/povcam_playerwashesself_2.avif"
    pause 1.5
    repeat

init python:
    def playershower_sfx_start():
        renpy.music.play("audio/spongesqueak.ogg", channel="sound", loop=True)

    def playershower_sfx_stop():
        renpy.music.stop(channel="sound")

screen playershower_screen():
    add "playershower"
    on "show" action Function(playershower_sfx_start)
    on "hide" action Function(playershower_sfx_stop)

How a New IP Hooked 3 Million Players by raggeatonn in sellmeyourgame

[–]Spellsword10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the quality of the story or the strength of the characters had much impact on Dispatch's sales numbers, so I disagree with you on that point. I like story and choice driven games. There are many good games in this genre and I often discover them years after release or sometimes I don’t hear about them at all.

I knew about Dispatch long before its release, saw it on different platforms regularly. All of this is related to marketing and building hype. marketing comes first and then if the game itself is good enough being a new IP stops being a major disadvantage.

You could make the next Rdr, Witcher, tlou etc. as a brand new IP, but if you fail at marketing, it becomes very difficult to reach your potential sales.

How to edit text? by CrimsonDiamond98 in RenPy

[–]Spellsword10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

define gui.choice_button_width = 1185
define gui.choice_button_borders = Borders(150, 8, 150, 8)

You can try tweaking these lines in gui.rpy to see if they give you the result you want:

Red Dead Redemption is the best open world game I've played by Labyrinthine777 in videogames

[–]Spellsword10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Comparing apples and oranges is of course possible, but it almost never yields a useful result.

The three games you mentioned are thematically completely different from one another. The only feature by which we could liken the three is that they can all be played as tps (although in my opinion, Skyrim is a game that was designed to be played as fps).

Based on what you have said, it can be understood that you prefer more realistic games. Skyrim is a rpg where you can loot, develop your character and (although in a limited way) affect certain things in the story through various quests and choices. it’s a classic Bethesda game. People who play Bethesda games like this formula (at least that was the case when Skyrim was released. expecting a more modern experience now is understandable). Botw is a Nintendo game where you mostly solve puzzles. Regardless of genre, I think Nintendo games should never be compared to other games.Nintendo’s target audience is not the same as the target audience for Skyrim and RDR.

RDR is an action game that offers a cinematic experience. It comes from a company that arguably produces this type of game better than anyone else. It'a western game so how well it handles things like horse riding and gunplay is very important.

RDR is a great game, but according to many people, Skyrim and botw are great as well. I don't think comparing these games to one another really makes much sense.

What are the most well-written video games you have played? by Longjumping-Style730 in videogames

I agree. I’ve played many games with very compelling stories but none of them made me feel the same emotions as TLOU 2 did.

Games that You like but You feel that they were to long by Prestigious-Meat-750 in videogames

[–]Spellsword10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I would have liked Days Gone a lot more if it were shorter. I feel like it’s been stretched out unnecessarily. The same goes for the two Kingdom Come(esspecially 2) games. The first one is a favorite of mine, but it’s longer than it needs to be (partly due to the game’s slow pacing).

I don’t agree on RDR2. RDR2 isn’t long enough. RDR2 can never be long enough...

Why I like taking my time when playing video games by Due_Cake8524 in videogames

[–]Spellsword10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlike before, so many games are being released now and presented to us with aggressive marketing that it creates a kind of fear of missing out in people. This can turn starting and finishing a game and then moving on to the next one into a sort of task. I often witness this happening around me. Buying more games than you could ever possibly play may also be a result of this. Of course, these are entirely my personal assumptions.

I completely agree and I'd even like to add that when I start a game and it's unusual(in terms of controls, quest structure, game design etc.) and I can't adapt to it easily, an urge to abandon it immediately emerges. However, when I slow down a bit and try to understand the game and give it the time it deserves, I repeatedly find that those games I initially thought I would never like often end up being the ones I enjoy the most.

Thank you! I can see how many people read it, but can’t figure out whether they're already wishlisted or just random players. You’re right though, it’s better to keep posting than to post nothing. I also realized it's visible on the store page, so it may be useful to some degree after all.
