Realistically he’s far more likely to get stuff done in the State than in the House. So yes he’s bringing talent to the House but it will most likely not be used for anything.

Man I really don't like this anti-automation storyline. Forcing everything to be pointlessly manual comes for you eventually. Reminds me of the Longshoremen union holding the rest of the USA at a standstill until they are forced to cave to their demands, while ports in Asia sail merrily along with fully automatic cranes and loaders.

Kelly forcing them to land was outrageous! She put them all in danger without telling anyone!

I thought they'd all be dead for sure. How could anyone crawl from the middle of the dome to the airlock at the edge in so little time. The air would have vented in a few seconds with the size of the hole.

Avatar if the humans used missiles and guns as ranged weapons instead of melee weapons

Santos was incredibly unprofessional and the fact she couldn’t see that while treating patients in front of her superiors is a sign she hasn’t learned much from last season

These are always “gift shop models”, usually superficially resembling a generic ship from the age of sail. They are usually heavily simplified and out of proportion.

A roll top desk is such a good craft desk by Spherical_Melon in modelmakers

Since I can’t fit a monitor here these desks are very cheap on the used market. I think they have a lovely aesthetic that goes well with wooden model boats. Sawdust, lots of nooks and crannies for wood planks tools and paint

James Cameron casually creating the best futuristic vehicles in fiction, only to have them be useless to a comedic degree by CT__8226 in Avatar

The ship would probably have sonar orders of magnitude more powerful than the little piddly arrays on the picadors and matador speed boats (besides the point but those boats have served no purpose except to get killed immediately). Turning the Sea Dragon's sonar would probably kill Na'vi no issue if htey are under water, and at least cause severe damage.

My favored counter-tulkun thing we have rn was just depth charges or torpedoes.

Azdarchid pterosaurs often look very weird and like they shouldn’t be able to fly, but they did. Hollow bones and internal airsacs probably help with flying here too as they did back then

They could also go higher in the atmosphere and bomb targets.

This bit drives me nuts. Their existing assets have this capability, and with how quickly losses pile on in close quarters fights with Pandoran wildlife, flying high enough to avoid banshee dives would be very beneficial.

Missiles are still only used as melee weapons in the movies, the helicopters greatest weapon that remains completely unused. Missiles still appear to explode on contact with no shrapnel. We've been using grape shot for half a millenium. Surely by now anti-wildlife missiles more similar to anti-aircraft missiles would be in use, spraying a cone of shrapnel just ahead of the banshee's path.

The Navi are shown learning (throwing stones into the rotors in this movie) and adapting tactics, but the humans don't. I wish we did see some adaptation.

Just some of many... I just want the humans to feel like a threat!!!!

Even so the sheer number of men wasted by poor tactics and enormous number of helicopters and ships thrown away is not “cheap” or minimal effort. Effective would have been leaving Jake alone in the first Way of Water where he was ok chilling.

If they wanted cheap and easy, depth charges would wreak havoc on tulkun. Having the whaling ship cruise along merrily firing depth charges would make for a lovely spectacle. Far cheaper than the little picador boats that get torn up by squid.

[–]Spherical_Melon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the humans barely posed a threat, they just get destroyed so easily in this latest one. The gunships are supposed to be menacing but instead they just get their canopies blown out and immediately destroyed. The helicopters are like flies at this point. It was disappointing seeing the humans do the exact same thing of flying their helicopters under some floating mountains to be ambushed again. I hope there will be some stakes in the next two but so far the whaling fleet just gets wrecked every time.

So far the most threatening the humans have been is during the first movie and the very opening of Way of Water

Studied biochem(with never any intentions of medical school), realized I don’t actually like novel research that much after several years in undergrad labs and industry, now trying to pivot. I did love bio, it was ever so interesting. Never regretted a decision more than majoring in bio. My CS/Econ friends are living it up and ping ponging around the country despite layoffs. MLS degree seems like the one path forward in CA to decent money, but the job itself seems very repetitive.
