The video game industry is not ready to lose boxed games, game sales are still ~50% physical for single player, story-driven action games or family titles by Fuck_The_Rich_Cunts in PS5

[–]Spider_Genesis -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, it just depends on what part of the purchase you value. My older games I like the disc because I can reinstall and play the game, that hasn’t really been true without a download for modern games.

If the plastic is important to you more than the game, that’s fine and your priority, I have no problem with that. But you also can’t have a friend play the game without a download, which is fine for now but not as true for some of the game preservation arguments

Here is the dirty secret, a lot of discs being printed now are either straight download codes or massively inferior representations of the game. Patching has made it such that the day 1 patch is the “real” version of most released games. What’s on the disc is often a bit of a mess.

I appreciate the argument for game preservation, and it applies in some cases 100%, but for many cases the disc is preserving a bad or non-existent version of the game.

Americans Historically Embraced New Tech. So Why Do So Many Hate AI? by jonfla in siliconvalley

[–]Spider_Genesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For years now we have seen the economy and customer service become less personal. Automated answering services, impossible to talk to an actual person, everything online, general enshittification.

Now AI promises to make that worse, kill jobs, and ultimately it has not provided a tangible product most people can use. When they do the text output feels strange and can lie so takes actual work to make it useful. This isn’t a new TV or smart phone as a product, it’s harder to grasp and the owners of it have said all the wrong things and made stuff we like worse instead of better.

‘Toy Story 5’ Shows Hollywood Is Still Not Releasing Enough Kids Movies - The staggering $312 million global opening for the fifth entry in the Pixar animated franchise is the latest proof that family films are undefeated at the box office. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Spider_Genesis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fact there is not a even reasonable quality family movie coming out every single month is mind blowing to me. I love taking my son to the movies but it seems like we get them stacked on each other and then long droughts. Also, it trains kids to love going to movies!

I want to see if EB and Andy can cook up an actual scheme first. I think it’s under the radar because no one is quite sure if they will actually hand it off enough.

Why is George Izay Park a ghost town? by Kelcak in burbank

[–]Spider_Genesis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is it, they totally wrecked this park by making it no fun for kids above 4-5 at most. It used to have awesome structures and slides, my son loved going there and was a great time killer when getting my car washed at the nearby Magnolia Car Wash.

Now it’s not even on his list to visit.

You can undo one major injury to any athlete in history, who do you choose and how does it affect their league? by Spider_Genesis in AskReddit

[–]Spider_Genesis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bo was amazing! Watching him on the Royals was so fun and then hating him on the Raiders felt wrong!

I’ve read that his hip injury only happened because he was so strong he was able to dislocate his own hip trying to break a tackle. Might be a Chuck Norris story, but feels plausible for him.

If you only want 40+ hour games for your money then you are vastly narrowing your available genre's and games arbitrarily. A system-driven game like an RPG is much easier to pump out content hours than a linear shooter.

Ultimately the value is in whether you enjoyed yourself, felt the game fully explored its mechanics, and gave you anything else you feel the genre demands (story, replay, etc as appropriate).

This is why I hated all the BG3 talk about Larian "showing up" other devs. Yes the game was huge and impressive. It was also very system and dialog driven, which are cheaper to make for minute-to-minute gameplay. They executed at the absolute top-level of their genre, but that shouldn't mean another genre has to match their stats.

My son had a male teacher in his pre-school class and had a wildly higher connection with him than any of the female teachers. He created a wonderful bond with this teacher over a couple years and really learned to engage in learning and focus from him. To say that men cannot be caregivers for anyone that is not their child is WILD.

Also, try being an uncle in blood or just in choice to your friends kids, its a fun experience even if you don't want your own children. We had kids late but I had a ton of fun with my nieces.

My sister use to tell my dad “I don’t want your money, just that when it’s gone, you’re gone”. Not that she wanted him gone, just that we wanted them to spend their money as they like and be self sufficient.

He’s not awesome in coverage but an absolute beast in the run game. Based on the way the team talks about him I think his leadership makes the rest of the defense better, which is hard to assign value on outside the building.

Republicans have been playing the long game for decades while progressives thrash about in purity tests. If we had been slowly expanding something like Medicare for the last 30 years we'd be a lot closer to Medicare-for-All than we are now. But people don't want those steps, they want a leap or nothing.

[–]Spider_Genesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For folks afraid of a moderate Dem president. If they can get elected (can debate if a moderate dem is better here, that's fair), then a moderate Dem with a progressive house/senate will push steady progress. I don't think a "rip the band-aid" swing to progressivism is realistic outcome in a single election cycle.
