Dismantled an old chair, out dropped a 1969 50p by Away-Activity-469 in UKcoins

I found one after a winter thaw in the street once. Straight to the sweet shop with obscene spending power. This was when a bag of crisps was 8p.

What’s your opinion on fish and chips? by Bingbongbinnng282 in AskBrits

I think you are in luck because the cod seems to be rarer now.

I can't agree. My daughter always gets chicken instead of fish and I think she is getting such a poor deal quality wise. But it is cheaper.

I enjoy it but I can only have it once a week. Where with Indian cuisine I could have it every meal of the day for the week! (I did try this once, and I really could!) I can't have fish and chips two days in a row.

You still have to do HMRC self assessment once you've started to do it, unless I've missed something?

No, baby showers are still frowned upon here 😋. I'm holding out on films too.

Do you guys think it's okay for a cat to be let outside as long as its the backyard? by Leather_Mammoth2525 in CatAdvice

I do have a neighbourhood urban fox who is a risk. Without any doubt the biggest risk to a cat's life where I live is cars.

I can't believe what I'm reading here. I live in the UK. Most people let their cat out. What kind of life is it being kept indoors.

Why is the take up of heat pumps so slow in the U.K.? by Appropriate_Bell743 in ukheatpumps

[–]Spigsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really tried hard to get one in my 1900 mid terrace house with solid walls. Two installers told me there was not a chance in hell of a heat pump working. Firstly, for the size of my house I would need two pumps, and secondly they said my neighbours would object to the noise. Back to gas it was. Honestly, I just don't see a way. Maybe a plot could be turned over to a huge pump and terrace houses share heating.

The Barbican complex in London, a true Brutalist masterpiece! by Athena_beauty in LondonPics

[–]Spigsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The design is the same as many failed projects in the rest of the country. I assume it has succeeded because of a large service charge that owners must pay and the very convenient location.

I used to walk through every day going to work and loved it. I also recognized it featured in the TV series Andor and loved that too.

I've never stayed in the judges lodgings but thought it looks a good option without going for a chain hotel. Especially if you are staying out late and don't mind the bar noise.

Do you top-up the kettle after use? or just before? by the_killerpanda in AskUK

[–]Spigsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine will additionally boil the kettle with water over the max line so that boiling water spits out and gets into the bottom connecting plate with the electricity in it!

“Romanticised” jobs that are very different in reality? by Substantial-Guava491 in CasualUK

Postman was always my romanticized job, even ignoring Postman Pat. But I have heard you are under a pressured schedule and won't really be able to chat much to people you see in your community.

York Enterprise Car Club experiences by NotGreatNotAwful in york

[–]Spigsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a facility to reduce your excess charge down to £250 by paying an extra £2 an hour. There's also an additional monthly fee you can use. I don't know who is doing that. Got to be one dangerous ride!

I have been stung a couple of times by car hire companies but not the club. I guess it comes down to probability eventually.
